Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well in the 90’s he was voiced by the guy who was Baltar in Battlestar Galactica (1978). Sci-fi influence follows him.

....
I just realized I don't actually know what Apocalypse's mutant power is.
Man, I've seen the dude in multiple forms of media, but I don't actually know what he does.
At least to himself. I know that he's been around long enough that he's quite good with Genetic manipulation, which comes across in all his incarnations in some form (since, with the exception of X-Men: Evolution, he's turned Angel in Archangel in his every appearance). It's how he makes his Horsemen.
One Strip! One Strip! His powers are.... Pretty much whatever the writer/plot demands. I think officially he started out as a shape-shifter and it was his suit/technology that gave him more powers on top of that but honestly I don't know for sure.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Was he patient zero for the annoying combo platter grab-bag villain powersets that became one of the worst excesses of 90s X-Men?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI guess when the MCU is going to tackle the X-Men, they'll have Mr. Sinister be the next big villain they'll face. There were a few hints in the Fox series that he was going to show up, but they never led to anywhere. Plus, he's a popular enough villain that won't really retread ground from the previous films.
Unless you count Sebastian Shaw from X-Men: First Class.
Marvel is under no obligation to make Mr. Sinister the villain of their first X-Men movie just because Fox was teasing him in their series.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Mister Sinister is one of those villains that it would be very easy to get wrong, however. I would build up to him.
Instead, I would tackle the Sentinels and Master Mold first. Even though Days of Future Past had Sentinels, they were never really the bad guys (except in the future segments). We never saw the X-Men actually fight and defeat them. And Master Mold is just an inherently cool concept. I want to see the X-Men fight and defeat them.
Then they can go on to fight other enemies like Sauron and Black Tom Cassidy and the Juggernaut. The only enemy I don't want them to fight is Magneto — we've had enough of Magneto already. The next time I want to see him, I want him to be an uneasy ally and stay that way.
What does Mister Sinister do when he's not trying to get Scott and Jean to fuck to make a Destiny Child to fight Apocalypse?
Like, what might he be up to in a movie?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI've always felt like the Sentinels were a silly concept. The idea of government-sponsored murder-robots designed to hunt down and slaughter an ethnic minority purely on the basis of racism seemed really far-fetched to me, ever since I was a little white boy growing up middle-class.
Then the Trump Administration, resurgence of Nazis, ICE, etc. happened.
...
So. Yeah. I say, go for it. Let's see some Sentinels.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Hopefully, the MCU has other heroes get off their ass to help with that.
I know we won't get much from Tony and Cap on that front, along with a few others who're likely retired, but at whoever's left should be saying no, stop that. Not cool dude to hunting down mutants like they're dogs with death robots.
Hell, after the Ultron debacle, the idea of using robots for anything should be summarily rejected.
....and thus, Tony Stark's villainy does some good in the end.
I want the Sentinels to be the villains of the inevitable X-Men / Avengers movie, partially to silence the “we can’t have the MCU characters in the same universe the X-Men because the writers would be forced to have them condone racism” crowd, but also because it would cool seeing - like - Hulk Fastball Special Wolverine into a giant robot.
An accurate Hellfire Club or Weapon X would be good first villains for MCU X-Men. I see MCU mutants best working as a burgeoning population trying to make itself heard for the first time, and what better antagonists for that than an entitled or exploitative organization that sees those people not as human but as a commodity, and their existence not as a first for humanity but simply as a selfish opportunity.
I too am tired of Magneto being the focus of every plot. It’s long since gotten to the point where people think the mutants legitimately have no other major villains.

Did I just come up with racist Gundams?

More or less, the Superman Stays Out of Gotham problem when seeing what people pull on mutants every other day.

Basically that even if the comics, the Xmen have to some extent come off as existing in their own world since the Avengers often just stand by while the Government makes one squad of Giant death robots after another.
Superman Stays Out of Gotham and all that, only it doesn't really work in this case because the Avengers as they are portrayed (and some mutants and even Xmen have been part of the team) would not let that shit slide.

One Strip! One Strip!xmen are a lousy metaphor for marginalised groups and the avengers would probably side with the government against these super powered people who keep showing up and are frankly a danger to themselves and people around them (which is why they are a bad metaphor period)
have a listen and have a link to my discord server

Edit: Lame joke pagetopper, this is a new one. Alright, let me try another one.
Goddamn, Hollywood. First whitewashing Egyptian people, now you're bluewashing them? What will you not stoop to?
