Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

> I’d love for Namor to get the MCU treatment, because he’s just asshole Aquaman in the comics.
That's the problem, audiences are already familiar with Aquaman so Namor would have a radically different approach, but truth be told more people know about Aquaman then they do Namor anyway
I expect when he does appear they'll run an ad campaign to promote his film along the lines of "He's not Aquaman and he does not talk to fish! He's abit of a jerk though"
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverIf we're talking differences from Aquaman, making Namor a real pompous asshole would be a good way to separate the two. I've always thought Namor works best when he straddles the line between full-on villain and anti-hero, he should be closer to the villain from the Aquaman movie than he is to Aquaman himself.
Cool as it could be, though, I’d rather they bolstered Black Panther’s own mythos and villains rather than pit him against other characters’ antagonists and characters, at least for now. I want to see T’Challa fight Doom or Namor, but I’d rather see that at the end of the trilogy and see one of his own stories adapted in the middle movie.
That said, I’m taking this with a grain of salt. The fact that only a couple smaller websites are hosting this news at all without any real sources is suspect.
Is it news, though? All we've seem to have learned is that the next Black Panther movie will have a title of seven letters.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. It's just a rumor at this point, and something of a tenuous one given that the only source for it is this guy.

Looking at his character page, the only prominent one that either hasn't been done in the MCU or isn't something racist is Mephisto.

The legend has returned. You're forgetting Reverend Achebe and the villains from A Nation Under Our Feet (Tetu and Zenzi).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Agreed on Achebe with Mephisto as a mix between Bigger Bad and The Dark Side, as an Evil Counterpart to T'Challa and the Panther spirituality.
That's really the most obvious thing to do with T'Challa right now, especially since Achebe's thing is destabilizing Wakanda after a big political upheaval.
Achebe makes the most sense for sure, although I can see M'baku as a sympathetic antagonist too, not necessarily a physical enemy but being ultra traditionalist to the radical T'Challa.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I'd figure Achebe as the main antagonist, with some relative of M'baku (cousin, brother, uncle) as a Decomposite Character of sorts to portray the more villainous side of Jabari as a retrograde traditionalists challenging M'baku's rule while Achebe challenges T'challa's.
In my dreams I picture Wesley Snipes as a Age Lift version of Mandla (M'baku's brother in the comics, possibly changed here to his father or his uncle given the 34 year age gap between Snipes and Duke).

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I could see M'Baku as taking an antagonistic role after being misled or led to believe that Wakanda was doomed unless he took over (which is something Achebe would probably do), but I don't want to.
Duke's M'Baku works so well as The Lancer and a reluctant ally. After such a endearing arc from "guy who tries to take over" to loyal ally willing to give the new way a chance, I'd rather not see the character backslide. There's already a decent chance he's going to die at some point.

Slow news day, huh?
