Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Just watched Avengers again after not seeing it for over four years. As a relative latecomer to it and the franchise at large, as someone who first dipped my toes in with Guardians of the Galaxy, it's fine. It's largely just fine. It was hot shit for the time that worked well on getting the team together, but aside from just never jiving with me THAT much compared to Guardians, its feels glaringly outdone and played out. Also, I gotta say it - Natasha's portrayal in here and from the looks of it AOU ain't great and feels even more notably not-great now. Just rubs me wrong.
I think this held up better than I was expecting, but the pizzazz just feels lost on me now. Give me Guardians any day over this.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Yeah, the first Avengers movie is pretty much the MCU's perfect example of "Seinfeld" Is Unfunny. But after 7 years, its allowed to be.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianI wasn't fond of Avengers 1 even at the time, since I wasn't invested in the characters because I didn't like the non-IM films. It and IM 3 being underwhelming just made me feel the MCU wasn't for me.
Since then, my opinion has become somewhat more favorable and I get why it was such a big deal at the time, but beyond its third act it's just kind of ok.
Interestingly Avengers was my gateway to the rest of the MCU. Thor is the most important to understanding the film but for the most part it averts Continuity Lock-Out. I found the characters at least engaging enough to eventually go back and check out their solo films, and since I found a lot of their solo appearances to be much better, I guess it means something was done right considering half of the cast were at their worst relatively speaking.
Looks like Jeff Goldblum misspoke and RDJ will NOT be in What If...? after all.
So much for "what is dead may never die," right?

Hey, if they can't get RDJ, just cast Eric Loomis as Tony again. He naturally does a good RDJ impression.
Agreed. Eric Loomis plays RDJ playing Tony Stark really well.

The guy who voiced Iron Man in EMH? Yes. Yes. YES.
Also, a bit of an update on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Set photos have been popping up and there may be someone there that wasn't talked about before...

One of the people appears to be a lady with a pinkish mohawk. Are we getting Songbird in the MCU, ergo, Thunderbolts in the MCU???

Mine would probably be, in no particular order: Infinity War, Guardians 2, Winter Soldier, Far from Home/Civil War (I really can't decide), and Age of Ultron.
Yeah, I'm weird in that I really liked Age of Ultron for some reason. I kinda flip flop on it a lot, but whenever I actually sit down and watch the film, I end up really liking it. Does anyone ever have films like that? Films that you don't think back on fondly until you're actually watching them again?

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position. The funny thing is with Age of Ultron mucking up his character their rivals DC had the perfect opportunity to Ultron right, only they call him 'Brainiac' over there.Of course, they've not done anything with him yet so meh

have a listen and have a link to my discord server@Tobias. I don't think of Age of Ultron as a guilty pleasure, because when I'm watching it I don't think it's a bad movie at all. I'm not enjoying it ironically and I don't feel bad for liking it. It's just that for some reason after some time is put between me and it, I don't remember it being a good film until I actually watch it again.

I expect a couple appearances in She Hulk, but beyond that...
