Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

By the way, that quote from Alan Moore is from an interview from several years ago. It not only pre-dates the current Watchmen series, but also Black Panther and Captain Marvel and Into the Spider-Verse. I have a feeling that Moore would have loved Into the Spider-Verse, especially because it has both POC characters and creators.
Yeah, Moor have more knowledge of how comic book works than many and dismissing is words is stupid.
On the other hand he have being for being very grumpy and cynical for a quite a while and having lost all is love he got for comic book done the line.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Welp, haven't seen Runaways but I can't say it doesn't suck to see it end. Here's hoping it goes out on a high note for those that like it at least.
Anyway, re:Moore, I can definitely agree that capeshit flicks could always stand to increase the diversity. Phase 4 of the MCU seems to be at least trying to address that, what with the likes of Eternals and Shang-Chi, plus the female-helmed Black Widow and Wanda Vision. Helps that they're bringing on directors and writers who do seem to have a good grasp on quality.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Wait a minute, was this all about an interview that was done years ago and is only being mentioned now because it's in a book that is about to be released?
In other words, it's not actually something recent.
And the original Twitter post that was posted here didn't actually seem to clarify that.
This is why you don't get your news from fucking Twitter, people.

Disgusted, but not surprisedSo Avengers Endgame is legitimately getting an Oscars campaign
.
It's pretty early Oscar season and buzz for the other likely nominees has actually been pretty minimal this year, at least from what I've seen. So on one hand it's very likely the Academy will do nothing besides toss it on one of the "ugh, fine, we nominated it, you happy now" slots, on the other hand I'm not confident that Parasite or The Irishman will actually muscle it out.
A sadistic side of me wants Endgame to beat over The Irishman in some Oscar category solely for the beef between Scorcese and the MCU to hit the big stage.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."The thing that makes the Oscar's unique compared to other awards ceremonies is that the nominees are selected by people in the Academy with actual experience in the particular field. Actors vote for actors, directors of photography vote for cinematography, sound designers for sound design, etc. While it can still get political that results in a lot of upsets (or because the top two split the vote, allowing an unexpected third selection to slip through), you are usually still looking at a group of quality examples for their particular category. This is in contrast to the Golden Globes, Critics Choice or even the Razzies, which tend to focus exclusively on popular works so they can get attention.
While Endgame is an immense production achievement (largely due to the size of the cast and being the culmination of events 20 films back), individual elements throughout are very mediocre. Static camera work, limited staging, truncated editing, I just don't see it punching through to a nomination in anything except maybe visual effects.
s for both Known Unknown and alliterator re:Moore.
Moore has anyway always been a curmudgeon, accurate in his rants or not, seeing people clutching their pearls at his 'hot takes' will never stop being amusing. I would also love to see what he'd have thought of Spider-Verse, though I'm guessing he'd be a Debbie Downer on it too.
Also echoing Gaon's comments:
Apparently Frank Miller is a whole lot better now, he freely admits that he underwent something of a Creator Breakdown and went way too far. Not sure he's expressed an opinion on the MCU yet.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."

he turned me into a newt!
