Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

That animation style is really nice and fluid. I wish they would use that on their next Avengers or X-Men cartoon series.

Also, all the concept art looks good...except for the Falcon. That looks a bit too goofy for me.

So far, we only know two episodes of What-If: Peggy as Cap and T'Challa as Starlord. What are some others you'd want to see, whether original or based on AU comic premises?

Well since they said each movie is getting a What-If one I'd like to see is...

Thor Ragnarok: What if Hela never went power mad and got to be there as Thor and Loki's older sister?

The whole "What if Hela didn't go evil and grew up as their older sister" actually would be a nice What If because, remember, the hammer was originally hers and Odin might actually have given her the throne during the first Thor. Leaving Thor and Loki with other things to do.

Hela didnt go bmad from power, she was always evil because Odin taugh him that way, now what if he repent before she become that way, maybe she would become the Queen of Asgard, maybe she would be a little bit more ruthless and edgy than the other(I mena, the girl shoot sword of her hands, she is VERY edgy), on the other hand without the Hammer, is possible that Thor would kept being and jerk.

Now, one simple what if: what is Zemo, noticing that he need time to take the video, would have unleash the winter soldiers to cover is escape?.

[up] Zemo never wanted to release the other Winter Soldiers, though. He didn't want to bring down countries, he only wanted to bring down the Avengers.

That is the what if: Asuming that Zemo is genre savy to see that Tony, Bucky and Cap can take the soldiers while he escape, after all, they have take heavy oponents and he dosent expect the soldiers to win, just to delay them.

Granted, is very posible Tchalla would capture him.

If anything, Civil and infinity war have biggest number of what if.

What if the people of Titan actually agreed to Thanos' plan?

...This arguably would have led to a far worse timeline. This would have created a precedent for this sort of mass genocide for the rest of the universe to follow.

Concept art from The Falcon◊ and The Winter Soldier◊.

AHHHHHH, I love these!

U.S. Agent

At first, I was like "what, no black costume?" but then I was like "U.S. Agent is a ripoff of Captain America, so of course the costume is gonna look like something Steve would wear!" Hooray for fridge brilliance!

And Kate Bishop

So the hip holes are moving upwards to the waist? The band-aids on her shoulder give the impression that Marvel Studios is aware of the thought that Kate having the holes in her costume is somewhat impractical.

More concept stuff

AHHHHHHH PIZZA DOG! gringringrin

And Captain Carter

Not calling her Captain Britain, eh? We see what you're doing, guys...wink

RE: What If clips:

AHHHH! I love these so much! The Iron Man suit is like "hey, what if The Rocketeer had armor and not just the helmet and jetpack?"

And idea, what if we call him "Iron Steve"?

By the way, where is everyone getting this stuff?

Kate just tends to have bandaids in the comics because of being a Hawkeye

As the normal person in the room they tend to get beaten up to show how dangerous the lifestyle is

I'm seeing some Fridge Brilliance for "Iron Steve" He might have been the only guy who was small emough to get into the armor and CRAZY enough to try and fly it.

You know, I have being thinking that Tchalla focus on mercy in black panther is in part a result of his experience with Zemo in civil war, having cool is head and showing that displaying violence to feel better is not a way to go.

I have the feeling that if Tchalla haven't learn that, he would have killed Killmonger early in the film.
