Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

@comicwriter: Yeah, that was me under a previous username. The Avengers was such a big deal precisely because no superhero movie on that scale had been done successfully before. X-Men 3 was the closest comparison, and it had been a disaster.
Managing to pull together 6 different main protagonists from 4 different franchises and get a coherent, entertaining story was an unprecedented achievement, and I wasn’t confident it could be done. As a result, I was very impressed with Avengers.

Another thing that helped was the fact that, while you got more out of the movie if you'd seen the previous films building up to it, it did a decent job introducing most of the characters, so people could just go see Avengers without having seen the previous films and still have a good time and follow things along. Hell, Mark Ruffalo's Hulk might as well not be even the same character as TIH, for all that film ended up mattering lol
Apparently, there are rumors that Storm is going to appear in Black Panther 2 and Marvel is looking at Janelle Monae to play her. There are a few things I doubt about this, however:
- It sounds like Storm would be T'Challa's love interest, like the comics, but the movies already have a love interest for him, Nakia. Introducing another one would mean either a love triangle (which, so far, the movies have avoided) or Nakia isn't the love interest anymore (which I also doubt).
- Janelle Monae should obviously play Dazzler instead of Storm.
Seriously, though, I think Anok Yai (currently a supermodel) should play Storm solely because of this.
God damn.
Pretty sure it's a sign something's gone awry with your storytelling and characterization when you kill Mystique off in a scene that's obviously intended to be tragic and shit but some people are actively relieved that she's dead.

.
Imo Storm shouldn’t be out anywhere near Black Panther’s film series, except for maybe a small mythology gag.
I’ve always thought the casting there was amusing.
Even before she was confirmed to be in the movies, I thought Monica Baccarin was a dead ringer for comics Domino. When she was cast for the movie, that’s who I figured she was playing. Then it turned it she was actually cast as a relatively obscure character who was famous mostly for literally looking exactly like Domino.
Given the nature of the character, I figured they would empower Vanessa (who is a shapeshifter in the comics, iirc) and also introduce Domino as a separate character played by Baccarin as well, giving the two some kind of relationship or history in the sequel, but then they fridged her instead and adapted Domino with a completely different look.

The MCU has frequently taken its own path when it comes to romantic pairings, whether with Tony getting with Pepper, Bruce and Natasha's fling, Steve and Peggy's One True Love, all pairings that in the comics don't exist or were rather brief, so I don't expect they feel obligated to push together MCU T'challa and eventual MCU Storm.
Which was a shitty pairing either way, pushed only by Reginald Hudlin, whose run is rightfully reviled for his extreme Mary Sue'ism of both T'Challa and Wakanda.

Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% Scandinavian> Plus, T'Challa already has a well-received love interest in Nakia.
In before they drop a bridge on Nakia to make room for Storm
or they spilt up off screen
beepbeep make room for Storm x Black Panther!

have a listen and have a link to my discord server

One reason why live-action comic book movies have thrived & live-action manga movies haven't is because the former knows how to adapt a storyline.
Have you ever tried adapting a 50 chapter arc to less than 2-hour movie? Its not possible & that was exaggeration.
