Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I remember finding out that Millar wrote for Superman Adventures way back in the day. My mind was blown.

That's kind of how I felt when I found out Seth Mc Farlane used to be a writer for Cartoon Network and worked on Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo. It's not as big a contrast, of course, but still.

That's less of a surprise considering how flawed both Dexter and Johnny are. Dexter in particular is kind of an asshole, especially in Ego Trip. Sending an army of robots back in time to kill your sister just because she saved the world instead of you? Geez.

Disgusted, but not surprisedFair take. I think it has a bit of "Seinfeld" Is Unfunny in it; for me being 17 and watching it with 5 other friends, it was an experience. A very subjective one of course, but one that is etched in me with enough fondness, even if there are obviously other objectively better MCU movies than this.
I got into the MCU because I knew the first Avengers film was going to be a huge event, so I watched all the Phase One films so I could properly enjoy it on its initial release.
So, I'm not sure how much my enjoyment of that film is biased by that experience. I think it's a film I notice the flaws more upon constant rewatches, but it's not bad by any means. I still think it has some good scenes and lines, but it's probably more of a proof-of-concept that a shared cinematic universe could work.
But it made me a fan of this series, so I owe the film that much.
I watched Iron Man, I watched Hulk, watch the other movies and eventually caught on to the fact they were building up to something...and then came Avengers.
It was unprecedented. You never thought it would happen, but it did, and I was there for it because I had been catching every comic book movie that came out. No regrets I tells you.
I'm glad I was there, and I'm glad I stuck around. Nobody will ever be able to pull off what Marvel did...they can always claim that spot of first to pull this shit off.
One Strip! One Strip! The first Avengers movie may be an intense case of "Seinfeld" Is Unfunny, but I absolutely get why it was hot shit back then, even if Guardians always jived with me more.
Age of Ultron I haven't seen since it was in theaters and if I can get a chance to watch it for very little if not for free I will out of curiousity.
Civil War, if you wanna count it, was plenty fun but I still don't feel THAT attached, ya know? It was a great introduction to the MCU's go at Spider-Man and Black Panther and I'll still credit it for that, and it obviously annihilates the actual Civil War comics, but it's not that much of a go-to.
Infinity War and Endgame I do genuinely like a fair bit, but that liking of them also comes with a whoooooole lotta caveats that restrain them from greatness, especially on repeated viewings. Doesn't help that one of those caveats is my discontent with how the Guardians sans Rocket and Nebula just weren't handled all that well.
At the end of the day, it's clear that the individual solo efforts (plus the Guardians twins which are somewhere in between) have held up for me much more in the long run than the big crossovers, which isn't too surprising.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Each of the Avengers movies (except Ultron) did at least have one or two scenes that I really liked. The first had that one money shot of the Avengers team assembled for the first time all dramatic-like and I admit I liked The Stinger with the Shawarma. Infinity War had the forging of Stormbreaker. Endgame had the scenes with Scott reuniting with a now grown-up Cassie and Tony having much needed closure with Howard (I'm a sucker for parent-kid bonding scenes possibly due to my own issues).
But then again, I can usually find one or two scenes I really liked from most movies.
Disgusted, but not surprisedLike I said, MCU feel more important as whole than thr wsum of is part, which is why I feel more like tv series translate to a big screen, the avenger, specially the first movie hinge pretty much on that, is the reunion movie, the one who asamble the avengers, out of that is pretty shallow for a movie, mostly because the bulk of the story was carry out by other movie.
Age of Ultron have to introduce the villian, interaction between heroes and all that, even stuff like SHIELD being gone mean little if fury can show up with a shinny helicarrier out of nowhere.
one can said that Age of Ultron is avenger without set up.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"...there are a lot of scenes I would have tossed off the cutting room floor before a fight between T'Challa and Maw.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!That's a weird objection. Nobody had any sort of rivalry or relationship with any of the Black Order. These are just Weird Space Dudes who show up with Thanos. They're not really characters at all; they're boss fights. Their whole job is to give the Avengers opportunities to do cool things against colorful adversaries.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.My greatest regret is that the MCU never got to cover Corvus Glaive's secret fear that he's not funny.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

How about making Hank such an abusive bastard that he can be bros with Jeff Fischer & Adam Taurus?
