Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Even though it has been done before (Edward Norton and Terrance Howard), I can't imagine Disney and Marvel re-casting Hawkeye, not after Jeremy Renner has been Hawkeye for several films already.
Unless they cast Nathan Fillion. Is it just me, or do he and Renner kinda look similar (except different colored hair).
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!I find it more likely Disney builds up his replacement and then kills him off once that's done, if this doesn't blow over.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I've been thinking of various NBC actors I'd like to see join the MCU, and one is Justin Hartley from This Is Us. He'd be a really great pick for a Fraction-style Hawkguy.
Has the right look and based on his tv show character, I can definitely see him playing that combination of likable douche and guy who is a hapless loser despite being above average in many respects.
Also, whoever plays Hawkguy on the show (hopefully not Renner), I was thinking they could introduce the element of him as a Technical Pacifist. I've never been the biggest fan of how kill-happy heroes are in the MCU, and Hawkguy's Endgame plotline as a Luc Besson-style murderer of evil non-white people was... not great. So, I think it would be a good Author's Saving Throw if Clint feels ashamed afterward of how he acted (partly because it wrecks his marriage), and so from then on vows never to take life.

I'll maintain that as good as Fraction Hawkeye is, it would not have worked for the MCU Hawkeye due to lack of focus and the implications of playing trashfire Hawkeye for comedy after he had been traumatized by Loki mind control.
Post Endgame solo plus Kate series seems like a good place to push more towards that Fractioneye though.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersGuy, guys, we already have a Fraction-era Hawkeye. His name is Lance Hunter.

That is a good point. He's definitely a Hawkguy expy.
Without getting into the canonicity of the various shows, one nice thing about comic books is that it's possible for one work to use a character for a particular role, while leaving room for other works to use a different character.
Like for instance, my understanding is that AOS introduced a Captain America replacement character and obviously Falcon and Winter Soldier is doing that too with a different character.
And I also think you can have Jessica Drew in the MCU (here's hoping) despite her similarities to Jessica Jones (intentional since Bendis created Jones as an expy of Drew).
So, I don't think it would be a problem to have Clint suddenly acting (and looking) a lot like Lance Hunter. It's just that Mockingbird still wouldn't be his ex.

Also remember that Fractions Hawkeye was published after MCU Hawkeye was introed and the decision was made to model the MCU version after the Ultimates version (wife and kids) THANKFULY Laura and the kids averted their Ultimate Comics Coumterparts fate *shutter* By the time Fraction's version got its following it was too late to alter his MCU version.
Isn't Fraction Hawkeye rather divisive? From what I hear a lot of Clint fans felt he was flanderized into being an incompetent moron and years of his experience was ignored.
Besides, I don't think they'll change how Clint is written even if Renner is replaced.

I don't know, is it?
Also, I feel like the existence of the show kind of necessitates a retooling of Clint's character to some degree, if they are keeping the dynamic of Kate as more grounded and not having much respect for Clint. That doesn't completely work with MCU Hawkeye who is a grounded family man (who had an unfortunate period as a murder hobo).
He was interesting as the Regular Guy on the team but more could have been done with that.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
I thought giving him a family was a neat idea, but it's not what I really was interested in seeing from him (especially in a solo capacity), and they didn't do all that much to develop him beyond that.
Even in Endgame he was basically "I just want my kids back!"
Fraction’s Hawkeye is more akin to Sacrificed Basic Skill for Awesome Training, with being a mess in his social life but having a good heart and with the arrow skill to make things up as he goes along. Additionally, Kate only looks more competent than him by comparison; it’s made clearer in her solo arc in Los Angeles that she is just as prone to screwing up and acting on impulse on her own.

This song needs more love.

Found the source.
"The well-being of his daughter Ava has always been and continues to be the primary focus for Mr. Renner. This is a matter for the court to decide. It's important to note the dramatizations made in Ms. Pacheco's declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind."
Despite the claims that Disney considered casting someone else, it's believed bosses have decided against the idea and will permit Renner to appear in future Marvel films.
