Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Speaking of theaters and whatnot, but I've actually spoken to numerous theater employees, and they all despise the Marvel movies. But, not for the reason you'd think.
They hate that the films include stingers after the credits, meaning you have a a bunch of fans remaining in the theater, and it gives the workers way less time to clean the theater for the next showing.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!At any rate, the method of curtailing the influence of large bloockbusters in theaters is to incentive public culture funds for film theaters to guarantee a obligatory percentage of smaller films, and although this is moreso valid for foreign markets than the US, I imagine similar measures could be done to keep blockbusters from having this kind of monopoly.
Similar public incentives for film theaters is a method France uses to keep a stricter balance in their film market for example.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."It's not just Marvel movies, btw, but a lot of other, "bigger" movies (blockbusters, Oscar Bait, etc.) do crowd out screens at smaller theaters, and even some of the bigger ones. Those reduced showings give less of an opportunity for smaller movies to make a profit, and as a result they aren't out as long before they're pulled from theaters.
So smaller films often have an uphill struggle if there's competition out:
- Get released first, and get crowded out
- Get released at the same time/after, and get ignored
- Don't get released at the same theaters, and don't get watched
The solution could be to get released at slow seasons in the movie release cycle (read: not during April-July or November-January), but then you may be limiting your audience yourself, and that puts more of an onus on the producers to actually promote the films. Which they should be doing anyway...
Like I said, Marvel movies having such a huge presence aren't the problem, they are a symptom. This isn't a new phenomenon by any stretch of imagination (which is part of why Scorcese laser-focusing on the MCU harms his own point).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."And of course stingers are to get people to stick around during the credits because the people that made the movie want you to see their names
Forever liveblogging the AvengersRyan Reynolds apparently tried to audition for the role of "Anthony Stark."
Guess how well it worked out.
(Real talk, he probably had a word with them about being a certain mercenary.)

Ryan Reynolds looks (even today) too young looking to be Tony Stark.
He coulda been Quicksilver though.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!If anyone's using Twitter, you may notice that Jeremy Renner is trending, but it's not for a good thing.
That said, these nasty things have a habit of being greatly exaggerated.
Regardless, I'm not going to post it here because it's REALLY horrifying and unless they recast him, this might be the end for Clint Barton.
It's part of an increasingly ugly custody battle over their daughter.
People: Inside Jeremy Renner's Explosive Split from Ex-Wife: From Drug Allegations to Sole Custody Fight
He also recently fired back — with legal docs not bullets — that she is the one with the drug problem.
TMZ (warning, title is as clickbait as it gets): JEREMY RENNER Fires Back At Ex ...YOU'RE THE ONE WITH A DRUG PROBLEM!!!
Jeremy states he even hired a mental health specialist to monitor his visits with Ava to prove he was both sober and a capable parent.
The docs also lay out a timeline of Renner's film releases and the history of Sonni's allegations against him — including sexual and physical abuse of Ava — suggesting Sonni plans her attack to bring Jeremy bad press during his movie runs.
Renner says Sonni's allegations stem from her psychological problems and he wants the court to limit her time with Ava until she gets treatment and shows she can, "overcome her overwhelming obsession with demonizing" Renner.
Renner says over the 1-year marriage, Sonni would brag to friends that she had "bagged an Avenger" and joked she wanted to introduce her own friends to fellow 'Avenger' cast members so they could "bag an Avenger as well."

Disgusted, but not surprisedThis is reminding me of the mess that was Jim Cummings’ custody battle this year.
Best case scenario this ends like that: where their situation may clearly have brought out the ugliest in both of them but none of the criminal allegations actually happened (or at least, were not proven) and life went on.
"which is part of why Scorcese laser-focusing on the MCU harms his own point"
Kinda, I will said super hero movies, specially MCU is more the perfect demostration of the issue, I remenbering see a list of the movie who make more money of 2016 or 2017 and 8 of 10 were superhero movies, which it kinda tell you something.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"My kneejerk reaction is usually "Believe the accuser", but a divorce custody hearing does make me skeptical. People on both sides say crazy shit to discredit their exes during those.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I've already pointed out that celeb personal lives really aren't any of our business...unless they've been accused of doing something horrible. Then it becomes relevant.
Granted, this is a custody battle, so the accusations should be taken with a grain of salt.

Disgusted, but not surprised

Having said that, it should be noted that low ticket prices are partly due to filmmakers. They make agreements with theaters to have low ticket prices.
