Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It's kinda funny considering I just finished watching a video about Gemini Man, which actually offers a theme park-like experience of motion chairs.
"a tickler adds vibration to your legs for a full body experience
"
And now they're making a Jungle Cruise movie.

Well with Disney making films based on their rides, I guess he's not wrong.
Still waiting for that Haunted Mansion remake...
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!
Sounds like one of those midnight horror shows that James Rolfe once talked about (and was the subject of Joe Dante's "Matinee").
It's a "natural health" franchise started by Gwyneth Paltrow. Basically it's modern day snake oil.
It's pretty much Green Party style pseudoscience bullshit.
Here's the Wikipedia page on it.

Disgusted, but not surprisedMy one agreement with Scorcese's statements may be the "invasion" terminology, moreso regarding the way large blockbusters (namely Marvel) hit theaters they often start showing in every single room in the theater, to the detriment of smaller films and local films in cinemas abroad that get shoved out of theaters to make room for "Infinity War showing n. 2948", which is a legitimate issue, particularly abroad (speaking as a Brazilian with interest in national cinema).
But even then I'd say the MCU movies aren't the cause, but simply a symptom, of the issue (namely that large studios like Disney exert a unduly amount of influence in theaters). The same thing happened with Joker, for example.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Variety and the pervasiveness of films from a select few companies is a valid concern.
But as someone who speaks to the power of cinema...Scorsese needs to attack the problems, not the symptoms. If he believes in the magic of cinema as much as he claims, then allow for wider varieties of films to reach it, rather than complain about what’s popular with the masses.
Yeah, Marvel get more screenings per day, but it's not like they just stop showing other movies. There were about 7 other movies showing when Endgame was at its apex. They were just really uninteresting movies.
The theaters will acomodate their screenings to show the movies that make them the most money on their own. The idea that Disney pushes them is ridiculous.
People like to invent conspiracy theories whenever the box office or critical score fails to reflect their personal opinion.
"Disney bribes theaters to only show MCU movies" is just another version of things like
- Disney secretly inflated Captain Marvel's box office take and RT score to disguise the total bomb it actually was!
- Insert Media Here deleted the millions and millions of negative opinions that would have dragged down its score!
- Insert Movie Here ONLY made money because people went to see it just to know how bad it was! Multiple times!
Etc. etc.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.IIRC don't the theaters themselves have a very narrow profit margin as is? The more tickets they sell the more money they can make.
So if they are Selling out left right and center of the latest MCU block buster and other film has two screens and barely sells out, you bet your sweet ass they are going to cut the later to one screen and put the blockbuster in the newly opened one where they KNOW they will have sold out shows for the rest of the day, so they can you know....stay in business.

Thinking about it, I guess that's a pattern with my experience with FFH. Some steps forward, some steps backward, resulting in I wanna saw higher highs yet lower lows. Maybe.
