Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

He wasn’t really struggling
He looked more confused that someone let a baby onto the battlefield
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
IIRC, Gunn's Suicide Squad is kind of a sequel, kind of a soft reboot.

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryOff-topic, I know, but: Is anyone else worried that having to wait so far in the future to begin on Guardians 3 could cause problems down the road? Actors' schedules, changes in their personal life, etc. could make it difficult to impossible to get this movie made. People might even have forgotten about the Guardians by then and become more interested in other characters
The guys who took Gunn down (however temporarily) may have succeeded in a way
The hardest thing in this world is to live in it.I have finally watched... Avengers: Age of Ultron!
Summary: Nice job breaking it, Tony!
Stan Lee cameo: A drunk man who claims that Thor tells silly scary stories and is later kicked out. As himself.
Observations:
- Ultron's cool. I like him because of how he plays with the heroes like puppets in his strings (fitting enough, Pinocchio is referenced).
- Did Thor say something like "Don't start a civil war when I'm gone"? I must have missed that line.
- D'awww, Clint has a family!
- Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch have some weird accents. Also, I didn't think this Quicksilver is that wimpy. Also, his death sucks. But I understood. Also, I think the twins were cool enough.
- Thor has a vision. Foreshadowing, perhaps? Anyway, he leaves because he has to understand it.
- JARVIS is reborn... as The Vision!
- Hmmm... the scientists at The Stinger of Captain America: The Winter Soldier were working for HYDRA after all! Oh, and here's
- Ulysses Klaw (here, Klaue)! One of the few times in film you won't see Andy Serkis sentenced to perform in a mo-cap suit. Speaking of Klaue, he loses an arm. Speaking of Serkis, his company, The Imaginarium, contributed a bit.
- This film broke Joss Whedon down. I feel sorry for all the Executive Meddling I've heard he faced here.
- We have four new Avengers at the end: Falcon, War Machine, Scarlet Witch and the Vision!
- Wait a second, this film costed $350 million to be made?
- Another sky beam?
- Why the Avengers fight each other again? Ohhh, right. They are manipulated. Again.
- Fury's back. But not for long. He'll be absent anyway.
- Hulkbuster armor was here.
- If the Vision is worthy, then Steve is (after all, he 8s virtous in spirit and was nice enough to refuse lifting Thor's hammer. So, he's pretending. Until...).
- Is it just me or everybody has a field day with quipping?
- Am I wrong or Steve and Natasha have some Ship Tease between them?
- So, Tony created Ultron? Or just transplanted him in his lab?
The Stinger: "Fine. I'll do it myself".
9/10!note
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"Nice to see you enjoyed it. IMO the last well and true dud after that is Doctor Strange, though even that has its share of acclaim. Everything else from Ant-Man to Far From Home is at least decent for me.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Even at their worst, the MCU movies are just a bit dull but still competent enough as opposed to outright BAD. The closest we've got to a real stinker is probably Thor 2 and even that had redeeming features and remains watchable (though I certainly wouldn't seek it out.)
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."The only MCU film I flat out dislike is Iron Man 3. The second worst is probably Thor 2, which is merely a popcorn movie.
Captain America 1 might be the third or fourth worst, though I can't entirely recall why. I suppose the WWII setting doesn't work for some reason? I don't know.
Leviticus 19:34I'd hesitate to call any of the MCU films bad. There are ones that have frustrating elements or don't come together entirely, but there hasn't been one where I would refuse to watch it again or anything like that.
For a series that's run for over a decade and 20+ films, it is a goddamn miracle that they've kept a mostly consistent track record with their films.
I'd say Captain Marvel is a lot like Last Jedi. They both have enthusiastic Hatedoms that insist on trying to convince you that the film was really a total bomb hated by everyone despite the movie making over a billion dollars.
Hell, Rey outperformed Carol, even.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
