Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

So this means will be having 4 MCU films in 1 year. Unless they decide to push back one of those film which would seem pretty likely.

Do we give them Kaine and Ben so they can say they have a Spider-Man?

No not Kaine, he's awesome.

Plus I don't trust Sony to handle Aracely.

[up]They said LEAST interesting.

Supidaman had better show up in the next Spider-Verse film like they promised.

[up]Why can't everybody benefit? They get the known, popular Spidermans, and Sony gets the one with a mecha!

Except they didn't cancel Helstrom, so that can't be it. This is just more random speculation, like, "We heard from Variety that Marvel Studios is making more live-action stuff than Marvel Television is," which is true, but then they add on, "That must mean that Marvel TV is no longer going to produce live-action stuff, instead doing mainly animation," which isn't true.

Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?

It true though.

I like Peter and Miles.

I've never found either uninteresting.

But yeah, I'm open to one company taking one of them and someone else getting the other. Miles is as much Spiderman as Peter is. In fact, if they used Miles, they could cover their Teenage Spiderman angle far more easily.

Peter just doesn't work that way because Miles exists now, and Disney needs to realize that.

The existence of Peter & Miles allows each to cover a clear niche.

Peter is the adult who goes through adult stuff while Miles is the kid who goes through kid stuff.

Simple.

Peter B. Parker was definitely interesting. Also kind of the most...real incarnation of the character in recent memory.

He was a god damned mess, and not even half as good as the Peter Parker of Mile's universe on his best day....but from what we understand, he's still a damned good Spiderman.

That is why Peter is interesting.

He's rather real feeling for lack of a better term. He's a good superhero but in his personal life he's a fuck-up & a different kind of fuck-up compared to the other MCU heroes.

Miles in contrast is not that messed up as a person.

I would be interested in seeing an incarnation of Miles whose films aren't as crossover Spider-Verse heavy. Animated Miles is great, but one can do plenty with his own characters as well.

Let Sony keep Miles and introduce Anya Corazon in the MCU as Spider-Man's replacement and let Carol have her daughter.

Anya/Carol is gonna be the new Peter/Tony.
