Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, it's probably too late to do anything with Morbius, but I doubt anyone's looking forward to that anyway. Meanwhile, Venom 2 hasn't started filming yet, so maybe that will be the true test. (Or maybe I'm wrong and Morbius will be what makes or breaks the SUMC.)
Speaking of, I swallowed the pill and saw some of Venom's fight scenes with Riot and...they're not so bad.
It's brutal, chaotic, and goopy, all three things that describe Venom himself.
Hopefully, Feige will be able to work his magic on Venom 2 and maybe finally get him that big white chest spider. Maybe? Please?

This Venom has absolutely no reason whatsoever to have the spider symbol though. He's never met Spider-Man. He's never even MENTIONED Spider-Man. He's got no reason to suddenly start looking more like Spider-Man.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."From the articles I've read, part of the deal is that Spider-Man will not just appear in MCU movies, but also SUMC movies. (That's "Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters," which is a way less catchy initialism than MCU.) I think what probably clinched the deal is Disney allowing Tom Holland to appear — or even be a main character — in Venom 2, especially since the movie is being directed by someone that Disney has worked with before.
So now the situation will be that Marvel and Sony will have their own separate universes...but Holland's Spider-Man will appear in both, which is a pretty neat compromise. They probably won't use any Spider-Man villains as recurring MCU villains (so no Norman Osborn "Dark Reign"-type story), but if you squint, you could possibly see it all as one universe.
By the way, the best part about all this is Tom Holland's response.

@Lord Vatek: Kamala doesn't strike me as leader material.
Why not Miles, or Spider-Gwen?
If only the name was "Sony's Universe of Comic Characters", or SUCC.

Hey, Holland's too young for that language!
Maybe Spider-Man's heroic nature inspires Venom to keep being a hero and he (Venom) adopts the Spider Symbol as a sign of respect?
Or maybe the Symbiote hangs out with Peter after something happens to Eddie and the Symbiote sort of gets the Spider symbol from there?
Possibilities are limitless!
If the Venom movies make it to three, I’d like them to use some of the Knull evil space god of symbiotes stuff
Maybe some of the klyntar but better stuff too
Forever liveblogging the AvengersProbably posted this before (but hey, this thread does tend to move in circles), but I think it would be really funny to play Venom in the MCU in the way that Wolverine sometimes is in other comics (thinking of Ms. Marvel), coupled with that arc where the Punisher was hunting Spider-Man (adapted for the 90's animated series).
Essentially, play him as this Bad Butt who is implied to be a killer, and play up the humorous contrast with Peter, including when they ultimately bond.
I really like that idea of Venom then adopting the spider symbol himself.
Since Sonyverse Venom isn't a bad guy to begin with (and since at least right now, Eddie in the comics is pretty sane and heroic), it wouldn't make sense to turn him into Spider-Man's arch-enemy.
I'd like that too.
Also, had a thought RE that Sinister Six suggestion (which I think is great):
Since MCU Aaron Davis seems to be partly a composite with Hobbie Brown (and as it is, Davis is more sympathetic in both Spiderverse and some of his recent comic appearances than he was in the original Ultimate comics), I definitely think it makes sense to have him do a Heel–Face Turn.
So, with that said, I'm imagining him doing a Good Costume Switch either from the Prowler costume to Davis' version of the Iron Spider costume. Or maybe vice versa. Kind of imagining a Prowler costume that looks more like Blade's Spider Hero costume.
I imagine the answer is no because the movie rights of Spider Man include Miles
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'd agree but we already have Holland as Peter established in the MCU, since Sony is so darn determined to have their own Spider Verse why not just start with Miles?

Venom 2 will paint the picture
Just Makima.
