Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well, it's good that cliffhanger will be resolved then.
Looking at the article, the deal now is that Disney gets 25% of the profits instead of the 50% they were asking for. That's an improvement, but still significantly higher then the original deal where Disney got 5%. I'm still not entirely okay with this arrangement, since Disney started this whole mess by being greedy in the first place. I think I'd be okay with a 10% cut or something, but I know corporations don't think that way.
But the lessons to take away from this debacle are a) Spider-Man's simply being loaned to the MCU, he's not a permanent resident, b) the Mouse House will get what it wants because it has more influence and power, and c) this will happen again. I know these seems a bit of a pessimistic look on things, but this has shown that the Sony-Disney deal is a precarious one. Don't be surprised five years down the line when Disney asks for a bigger slice of the pie, even if it already got a quarter. Until Disney outright buys the Spider-Man film rights, this deal is being held together with chewing gum and wishes.
But yay, Spidey's back!
This is great news in my book. My guess is that this is very much a one movie deal meant to close out the MCU Spider-Man trilogy. Which is fine by me, since it means they can resolve the cliffhangers from FFH and leave Spider-Man in a stable place at the end of the third movie.
I don't really care for debates about who is more at fault for the negotiations being as troubled as they were. I mostly attribute it to the simple fact that both companies are for-profit entities and neither side had an especially strong profit motive for continuing the deal.
Nevertheless, the people involved are human beings, and while there wasn't a strong profit motive for continuing the deal, neither company is likely to lose money and it avoids any negative publicity assosiated with the breakup.
I pretty much dismiss any theory that the controversy was faked. While some of the leaks were probably inaccurate, neither side benefits from behind-the-scenes drama being aired in public.
Aww, I wanted to see Ms. Marvel take Spider-Man's place as the best teenage superhero.
Unsurprising though. It was just a matter of time.
This song needs more love.![]()
You’ll sooner see Rom: Spaceknight. Not awful ROM (IDW), the real ROM.

She’s getting a show, unless ghost rider was just the first to be cancelled
I know but I wanted her to be the main member of whatever the New Avengers will end up being. Now it will probably just be Spider-Man.
So it looks like Spidey is staying for at least (for now, a new contract seems inevitable) one more Spider-Movie and one MCU movie.
I'm tempted to think that one MCU movie is New/Young Avengers where he buds up with Kamala, Kate Bishop, and so on, but I'm not going to push it.
I also want to think it's a team-up with Deadpool, but again, not going to push it.

I'm hoping for a Sinister Six movie. So far, the movies have set up Prowler, Scorpion, and Chameleon in the background without doing anything with them, and that can be half of the Six right there. Just have Vulture, Shocker, or Tinkerer return and you only need to set up 1-2 more villains. Bonus points if Prowler turns good by the end.
It’s like that “what would you do if it was your last day on Earth” except “what if it was the last spider man movie in the mcu”
Forever liveblogging the AvengersAfter Marvel does their 3rd Spider-Man movie, and (if) the rights go back to Sony, I wonder if Sony will still continue making their own Spider-Man/Tom Holland films.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book!
Assuming they don't just do this song and dance again?

Ah ha...somebody blinked! My guess is Marvel is not going to cliff hanger the third film JUST IN CASE
