Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The MCU has a problem with wasting minor characters. I'm still mad about Kurse (and speaking of which, MCU Skurge was a waste too), we might have lost Dr. Minn-Erva (one of Carol's major enemies) to a cool but minor skirmish unless they pull Never Found the Body, and if you're fan of Molten Man or Sandman (or Hydro-Man, I guess) that's too bad, because they're just fake monsters.
The early MCU was just as bad. I'm sure fans of Doc Samson were happy that he's just some random asshole in this universe.

Nobody likes Comics Quicksilver anyway, he's an asshole. Hey, remember when Quicksilver was depowered during M-Day, got his powers back via Terrigen mists, and then led other mutants to do that, only to get them all killed? And then he became a villain for a little bit before Secret Invasion, after which he claimed all the bad things he did were actually done by a Skrull? Remember that?
Fuck Quicksilver.
Also, Stephanie Beatriz would love to play She-Hulk.
I can see it.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but in fairness to Perlmutter, he actually did do a lot of good back in the 90's, and his handling of the company kept Marvel from going the way of the dodo.
He epitomizes that Dark Knight quote.
Well, they had Bishop in X-Men: Days of Future Past as part of the X-Men fighting the Sentinels in the future. But he didn't really have much to do.
The only connection he has to Apocalypse is that during the Age of Apocalypse, Bishop was the only person who keep his memories since he had come from an alternate future, so he had Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory.

On a side note, I'd like to see a commercial for Disney + where She-Hulk says "If you dont subscribe to Disney +, I'll come to your house and rip up all your Deadpool comics", just as a cute homage to the 80s She-Hulk book (and yes, I'm aware this series will be somewhat more serious than that book).
Super speed is one of those powers that's very hard to write in an ensemble setting, so I can see why if they had to choose someone to die, it was Quicksilver. Even in the Fox X-Men movies you can see the writers and directors straining to try and find a reason why he doesn't just solve every problem himself before anyone else has a chance to do anything. (Dark Phoenix having the most egregious instance of this.)

Foxsilver kicked Apocalypse's butt in superspeed for about 30 seconds until Apocalypse unleashed his power of "f*** you I'm Apocalypse".
