Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Allegedly there was a version filmed where Carol came to Vormir and she and Nat fought some of Thanos’s forces there.
From a Doylist POV there wasn’t much for Carol to do story-wise on the Time Heist, but in universe there’s no reason why the Avengers couldn’t have waited for her, especially with no idea what’s on Vormir the “dominion of death”. And it’d save fuel because Carol doesn’t need a ship so they wouldn’t have to spend Pym Particles on the Benatar.

Xavier being changed to a black man is fine.
Magneto, on the other hand.......
While Black people might have been victims of the holocaust, Magneto's jewish heritage is integral to his character as a whole.
They need to tread carefully with that idea.
Watch Symphogear
European Jews circa WWII? That’s of course, unless they distance him from the Holocaust which is its own hornet nest.
Plus if they lean into the “Xavier is MLK, Magneto is Malcom X”, they really run the risk of being blatant to the point of offensiveness, reducing a very real conversation about securing equal rights in a society that denied them to people into good vs evil.

There were absolutely black jews during the Holocaust and that part of history has been somewhat erased by racism and stereotyping.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI highly doubt that they will make either Xavier or Magneto black. The MCU is beginning to be more progressive, but it's not that progressive.
Also, they are years and years away from making anything X-Men related and so I very much doubt that they are casting anything right now.

Conversely, I can totally see them race swapping the actors if for no other reason than to immediately differentiate the new Xavier and Magneto from the Fox versions. We've already seen them take some fairly big liberties with the Spider-Man franchise for the sake of trying to mix things up from prior adaptations.

Speaking of rumors and Spider-Man...
A new rumor is buzzing saying that Sony is offering 30% of the profits from future Spider-Man movies (Disney offered 25% and then 50% when Tom Rothman was sitting on the 25% offer), which will let him stay in the MCU.
However, Spidey can come back to the MCU, but on the condition that Venom will appear as well.
I know this may be bogus. In fact, I'm pretty sure it IS bogus. But on the 0.0000000000001% chance that it's somehow legit, Disney should just say yes. It's gone on long enough, I just want the nightmare of not having Spider-Man in the MCU to go away.
As someone who'd kill for Spider-Man to be kept around, let it go, man.
Just wait until the execs say something.
Erm, I wouldn't actually kill anyone, of course. My freezer is still full.

I know I have to let it go. It's obvious I need to let it go. But there's always something that keeps reeling me back in.

Yeah, Scar Jo is sadly keeping me from being more excited for the BW movie. I would ''like': it to be good, and hell, it pretty much will be at the very least, but a lead who I largely haven't been impressed by in the MCU and is kind of a bad person IRL bad person IRL plus the fact that this movie coming out this late into the franchise (and especially after she killed herself off in Endgame) just really dampens my enthusiasm, in a way that the other Phase 4 movies haven't.
