Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah. Shame about that second part. Missed opportunity to have Vampire Jubes sparkling all over her enemies' faces. She really was an underrated gem.
Which, to be fair, so is Jubilee in general, really.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Quentin Quire (also known as Kid Omega) was a character first introduced in Grant Morrison's New X-Men run. He's a genius and super powerful telepath, but also was a bit anti-social...until he started taking the mutant drug Kick and became even more anti-social, eventually leading a gang of students and starting a riot at the school (the storyline was literally called "Riot at Xavier's"). And he did all this in order to impress Sophie, one of the Stepford Cuckoos. (Of course, this isn't entirely his fault — Kick, it turns out, was the aerosol form of a being called Sublime who hated mutants and subtly influenced anyone who took it.) And even after Sophie died, she still rejected him.
Then he died, came back, got the Phoenix Force for a hot second, and left. He's been in an out of Xavier's school ever since, as a kind of "wild card." He's basically a kid with waaaay too much power, low self-esteem masked with a huge degree of cynicism, and a need to be hip and edgy.
Yes, that's right: he's a mutant hipster.

And he was baffled when he found out her powers were basically "being Genre Savvy and thinking she's in a comic book." (Her ability to leave the comic book for the white space didn't work since she wasn't in her own solo book anymore.)
It's both. Gwenpool has fourth-wall breaking Medium Awareness. However, her main advantage is one of the few legitimately accurate uses of the Genre Savvy trope on our wiki: she's read a lot of Marvel Comics, understands things like the narrative structure and how a superhero story works, and uses that knowledge to her advantage.
She's not just really clever as so many Genre Savvy misuses go. The idea of Gwenpool is that she's an actual comic book nerd from our universe who got pulled into the comics somehow, and she uses her familiarity with the brand to make the Marvel Comics formula work for her.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It’s canon that Gwenpool has read Spider-Man: Reign, as of her latest solo. D:
Also she can access the Marvel Youtube channel, which raises a lot of questions as to the implications of her being able to contact her old world.
To sum it up uncharitably and also belatedly, Quentin Quire is basically an incel school shooter who was rebranded after his death and return as a quirky funny cynic.
With basically no connecting dots between those two things.
