Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

And it's getting less and less so over time.
In fact, I'd argue that instead of being much less sillier than the comics (it is, but the gap is getting smaller every year), the MCU is simply more coherent, because it has set goals in mind and isn't being created by 30+ writers all throwing random ideas to the wall to see which one sticks, with editorial teams changing every decade or so and forcing everyone to switch gears and go in another random direction.

From what I remember, Lockheed is set to appear in The New Mutants... whenever the hell that's supposed to come out.

Regarding Robbie riding a motorcycle; it's not a big deal for me, but I can understand being put off by some of the changes made for Robbie.
I like Robbie's Dodge Charger, but I've got my own hill to die on regarding the character. My main complaint about Robbie is that he doesn't host Zarathos, the Spirit of Vengeance. Everyone else gets to host Zarathos. It's what makes them Ghost Rider. But Robbie gets stuck with Uncle Eli, who is the ghost of a murderer and somehow gives him Zarathos-like powers.
Like, would it have been that hard to just give him Zarathos?
Apparently not, because Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. let him f*cking have Zarathos. And it was great! Probably my favorite season-portion in the history of the show.
And now Robbie's getting a Hulu show which may or may not have anything to do with his role on S.H.I.E.L.D. So I really hope they don't throw out Zarathos and stick him with Eli.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
The comics also recently implied that he has Zarathos too.
Yeah, I guess thats a fair point.

...See this is why I won’t shed a tear if New Mutants never gets released.
As for the Adventure into Fear line of shows, Omens and Ghost Rider will be two, but what about the other two? Blade’s getting a movie so The Tomb of Dracula is out, anyone else?

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.FUN FACT: During the mythical Ragnarok, Loki and Heimdall are supposed to fight each other after Loki slips free from captivity. They would both kill each other and die together.
Instead, they were both killed by Thanos in the same scene.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Whenever Chris Hemsworth is ready to leave the franchise, the final Thor movie should have the Midgard Serpent as its villain. There have been multiple adaptations of the character in the comics, so there's plenty of material to draw from. Some of Marvel's depictions have been literally the great wall of snake while others have been a bit more abstract, but the idea of Jormungandr has popped up a lot.
I can think of no better swan song for Thor than facing his mythical archnemesis Jormungandr. Slaying the Serpent, taking those mythical nine paces, and falling.
Bonus points, you could probably make some kind of environmentalist theme around the Midgard Serpent belching poison into the atmosphere.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I remember when the trailer for The Avengers (2012) first came out, and people thought the Leviathan that was chasing Iron Man was the Midgard Serpent.
Obviously, that wasn't the case, but it wasn't that big a stretch considering Loki was the main villain. It certainly was a surprise first watching it to see Loki unleash a swarm of the things.
Sleipnir the eight-legged horse is the son of Loki with a stallion (He was a mare at the time, you see) and the personal steed of Odin.
Has the ability to travel through all nine realms. If the movies insist on going the Science Fantasy route I imagine he wouod be turned into a spaceship capable of using the Bifrost that was designed by Loki as a gift to his father.
Which I think it would be lame, but that's just me.

The MCU is grounded compared to the comics but pretty fanciful compared to other superhero movies
