Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Go watch Agents of SHIELD. Everyone should watch Agents of SHIELD.
Today, I'm going to watch... Thor: The Dark World!
Is it just me or will I be facing a very painful movie (from what I've heard from you)?
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"The problem with Thor Dark World is that again focuses on the earth, instead of exploring other kingdoms.
It was also unnecessary to give a comical sidekick to the comical sidekick.
The main villain is so flat that his Right-Hand (kurse) is more interesting than him.

I hope Loki series explores the kingdoms, but I doubt it very much.

If I have to say something positive about the movie, Loki stopped being a straight villain (Avengers) to be an anti-villain again.
Loki's evolution as a character seems to be.
Anti-Villain (Thor) —> Straight Villain (Avengers) —> Anti-Villain (Thor 2) —> Anti-Hero (Thor: Ragnarok)
The one in the series will be the 2012 version, so he will probably be a straight villain.

I wouldn’t even call Loki a straight villain
Avengers emphasizes that he’s under duress of a kind. He’s still being a jerk of course
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI definitely think The Dark World suffered from too much emphasis on Earth and on the Thor-Jane romance. Both the first and second films really wanted us to see them as like the Tony-Pepper of Thor's life, but they did a terrible job of selling it. The Dark World puts a lot of emphasis on rekindling this life-defining ultimate romance between the two, but they never had a life-defining ultimate romance to rekindle so it all just came across as forced.
The main villain is Malekith and the main plot is Malekith using the Reality Gem to destroy the Nine Realms for Svartalfheim. But the film doesn't really want to talk about that. It wants to talk about how cool Loki is and how awesome the Thor/Jane dynamic is. And it doesn't work.
Guardians of the Galaxy has pretty much the exact same setup. The main plot is Ronan using the Power Gem to destroy Xandar for the Kree. It's literally the same exact movie with the proper nouns swapped out. But it works because the stuff that the film really wants to talk about, the Guardians all meeting and getting together, is actually interesting. The Jane/Thor romance is not and never was.
Guardians and Thor: TDW both needed great casts with good chemistry who are fun to watch interact with each other in order to offset the by-the-numbers blandness of Maleronan. Guardians had that. Thor: TDW did not.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. That's why I have no interest in Thor 4, that is, a movie with Jane but without Loki.

Something I wonder is how strong Loki is supposed to be, that is, he is capable of receiving bullets without suffering damage and survive the explosion of a bridge, but he has trouble beating a super soldier.
Loki is surprisingly tough for a Squishy Wizard.
I guess he's just as strong as Corvus.

Well, we don't know much about the movie yet (beyond the fact that we're 90% likely to Jane-Thor). Don't just assume it'll bomb because of that.
Plus, Taika Watiti (sp) is directing again, and we all liked Ragnarok more that TDW....well except me. I was fine with both equally, but I'm clearly insane for liking TDW if the unanimous disdain for it is anything to go by.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah, I'm psyched for Jane-4. Not only will Jane-Thor add to the dismal representation of female superheroes, but Jane's actually not a bad character in those rare moments where she's allowed to be anything other than Thor's Totes-Epic True Love. When she gets to be super-scientist Jane, she's pretty entertaining.
My biggest concern about Jane-4 is the title "Love and Thunder". That has me worried that they might just resume trying to sell us on Jane/Thor, rather than giving Jane-Thor her proper dues.
