Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I always felt that Captain America: The First Avenger is probably the closest we'll get to a Spielberg directed MCU film. Joe Johnston has often been called the Poor Man's Substitute of Spielberg and combined with how many WWII movies he's made, it's easy to see him taking a Captain America movie in an other timeline.
And yes, I'm aware he's a bit uncomfortable portraying Nazis as cartoonish supervillains ever since he did Schindler's List. That's why I said Johnston's the closest we got to Spielberg.
A Lucas-written Marvel movie (but directed by someone else) could be a interesting thought, but since buying star wars Disney has treated Lucas almost like a persona non grata in the SW franchise, so I doubt he's getting any leeway in the MCU either (or even if he'd want to, as he doesn't seem all that fond of the Disney global empire).
But if we're disregarding all that, I could see a Lucas MCU film playing to his strengths of Genre Throwback and not putting romance front and center. Perhaps something like Nova Corps could suit him.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I recall Lucas directed a little bit of
Solo. He's not completely exiled. Merely 99% exiled.

Solo?! Disney brought him back to give him a small bit job of filmmaking in a movie, and that movie became the first Star Wars film ever to utterly bomb?!
Jesus Christ. Did George Lucas accidentally take a piss on a sacred burial ground or something? I used to think he was bad at writing, but now I'm starting to think he's just cursed.

It was actually because Solo was being directed by Ron Howard, who is a good friend of Lucas. Howard invited Lucas to the set and then got Lucas to direct some scenes.
It's not a bad movie, either. Just...it wasn't released at the right time. And I doubt Disney wanted it to bomb, either.

Remember that Ron Howard starred in Lucas's second movie. The student reunites with the master.

Misleading context though: Lucas literally just went on a set trip in Solo and gave Howard a tip on one moment of one, fairly innocuous scene and then left. Disney just allowed it to stay.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."No way should they repeat the sins of the past.

I'm not blaming him for it. I'm marveling at his shitty fortune. Everything he touches seems to go cock-eyed.
Honestly, despite not being fond of his prequels or special editions, I actually feel bad for Lucas. Imagine creating a ground-breaking piece of cinematic history, the likes of which had never been seen before and that is still considered one of the greatest classics of film history decades later. Beloved by billions of fans across the globe.
All of whom agree that you, personally, are worse than Hitler and deserve to be horsewhipped until you repent for ever trying to write anything in the first place. They practically worship your creation (some literally worship it), but thoroughly despise you.
I've never blamed Lucas for selling Star Wars to Disney. Honestly, I'm surprised he didn't wash his hands of it sooner. It can't be easy, being hated by all of your fans.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.He did do excellently powering Star Wars: The Clone Wars, probably the most universally beloved piece of the franchise, neck-in-neck with the OT. Tellingly Disney has never been able to replicate this success with any other show (to the point they decided to bring back TCW).
Lucas serving a similar role for some MCU animation would actually be ideal.

Yeah, I used to joke about how funny it was that all Star Wars fans believed George Lucas was the worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars, but I no longer find the joke funny...since it seems to be true.
Of course, now they say different after Disney took their own shot at things, but honestly this is one of the many things that have disillusioned me with both sides of the entire Star Wars franchise: the more insensitive and rabid fans and current creators both kinda have me feeling like I no longer want anything to do with this.
Lucas should get involved with the MCU and make everyone of them (me included for making those jokes) eat their damn words. Just one big middle finger to everyone who's had issue with how he does things by making the most awesome thing ever.
One Strip! One Strip!Wayyy nicer than many assume it would be.
Contrary to what a lot of folks picture of Scorsese, he absolutely can direct family-friendly and fantastical, as shown by Hugo.

I wonder how George Lucas or Steven Spielberg would direct a marvel movie
