Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

No doubt it's going to be nominated for the technical awards (Visual Effects, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing), but will be nominated for the big ones?
I'm not sure if Endgame will be nominated for a Best Picture Award, although it might just as a Consolation Award for the MCU overall. I can sort of see Robert Downey Jr. being nominated for a Best Actor award, but I'm not sure if he'll win the grand prize.
I just don't think the critics have given this film praise on the level they did Black Panther (2018). Again, the Academy can be a tough sell when it comes to nominating genre works.

Endgame is a good movie but I don't really think it's Oscar material. Some obvious glaring holes throughout, the real cinematic achievement with it and its predecessor (and Civil War) is that it didn't have more considering all the moving pieces it contained.
Sometimes a part of me wishes MCU didn't push the Russos to go bigger with their films, as I would've liked to see more smaller-but-airtight films in the vein of The Winter Soldier instead.
I kinda feel the same. While the crossover films in and of themselves are decent, sometimes it's noticeable that they have the effect of suddenly halting plotlines from the individual character trilogies, getting them ignored or awkward to resume again.

I’ll give Titanic one thing.
It has Leonardo Di Caprio. We have yet to have a Marvel movie that stars him yet & that’s a crime.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Granted, that would mean Kang will appear in the MCU, which means Time Travel up the wazoo. And I've made my feelings on that pretty clear in the past.
Disgusted, but not surprised
