Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I watched the Hulk movie (the newer one that actually was kinda supposed to tie in to the MCU) more out of a sense of duty to watch all the MCU movies than because I wanted to. And afterward I felt that I really could have skipped it, considering none of the plot points brought up in that movie come into play in the MCU and even Bruce Banner's actor changed.
Don't worry for me. While I usually read spoilers, I am usually enjoying the product I've been reading spoilers from the summaries from.
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"I wanted Blonsky to return as part of a hypothetical Thunderbolts film where Ross puts together his own Avengers with blackjack and hookers as, like, a work-release program for super-criminals. With Zemo leading them.
But since Zemo's apparently going to be the bad guy for Bucky and Sam's show, I guess that nixes any Thunderbolts options.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I think Captain America: the Winter Soldier is what got me actually invested in the MCU, though I had seen some MCU movies before. After seeing that movie is when I decided to start actively trying to keep up with all the movies afterward.
And, I dunno, it's not that surprising to me that there'd be people who'd never seen a single MCU film. I hadn't seen any of the Star Wars films until my second year of college. And there are plenty of other movies that are assumed that everyone has seen that I certainly have not ever seen. So. I figure it's possible.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.speaking of agent of shield, I admit I would have love if the thing travel to the past, specially if daisy would do what cap did endgame and said "hail hydra" to sneak in.
I mean, agent of shield have change so bloody much over the seasons that a time travel feel justified in general.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Iron Man 1 is a very good starting point. Aside from just being a good film altogether (probably one of the best from Phase One), it establishes the tone and style for the films going forward. So, how much you liked that film gives you an indication how you'll like the series as a whole.
Although I will admit, the next few films are a bit rocky. The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 are considered to be some of the weakest films in the series. They're not necessarily bad, but they aren't reflective on the quality of much of the films going forward. The MCU was still trying to find its footing at the time.
I actually know someone who was in her mid-twenties when she first saw Star Wars. And even then, she only finished the trilogy because her boyfriend lied to her and told her Luke dies at the end.
It's since become a running joke to tell her that Luke dies at the end of movies/games/etc., especially ones completely unrelated to Star Wars. It's become our group's fun, wacky Fake Spoiler.
Ironically, no force on this Earth has yet convinced her to watch The Last Jedi, despite actually liking both The Force Awakens and Rogue One.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I have watched Iron Man!
Overall, fun! I'll give it a 10/10!
Summary: Iron Man is born. That is all I can say about.
Also, if you're complaining about too many sky portals in the MCU (or other superhero movies), this movie had it first.note
And sorry that I've kept you waiitiiin' (sounds familiar, isn't it?).

"Scooby Dooby Doo!"Think Endgame will get any Oscar love? It was massively acclaimed and finally unseated Avatar from its (totally undeserved IMO) most-profitable-film throne.
Plus I'd imagine there'll be pressure to give awards to movies that, y'know, people actually like after the whole Green Book fiasco.
Can You Ever Forgive Me? and Buster Scruggs were robbed.

One downside to me getting into the MCU in 2017 and reading up on synopses of the previous movies is that I spoil them for myself, so the big twists like (SPOILERS FOR WINTER SOLDIER) HYDRA having infiltrated SHIELD for decades doesn't have the same impact. So Andrei, I hope you've spoiled as little of the MCU for yourself as you could. Which is admittedly kinda tough these days.
