Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Here is the specifics via the Sony leaks:
I mean, we seemingly are already getting a new Black Widow, so...

She has a lot of stuff typical on many costumes and not really specific to Spidey, but when taken into account as her being derivative of Spider-Man (red color scheme, white eyes, web wings, the explicit spider-symbol on her more recent outfit) would probably be a no-no.
Plus, of course, if she can't actually have spider-powers, there'd be no reason to have her in a costume with web wings or a spider logo in the first place.
When she moved from being black widow ie femme fatale to being black widow ie like the spider, she picked a fight with Spider-Man out of nowhere to test out her new equipment.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersA monkey's paw curls its finger.
Natasha Black Widow is brought back to life
BUT
She eats MCU Spider-Man.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersJessica Drew also barely has Spider-Powers (she sticks to walls, but doesn’t really need it because she can fly. And she also shoots lasers, which isn’t really a spider thing as far as I know.
Marvel basically gave her the standard hero loadout, paid some lip service to her being spider related, and then used her to keep someone else from snapping up the Spider-Woman trademark while making her have jack-all to do with Spider-Man.
They don’t really lose anything on adapting her without “spider” elements, because she barely needed those in the first place.
Don't forget her super-pheromones that make her mind-controllingly sexy. Because comics and women.
So if you take away everything Spider-Man related, you're left with Jessica Drew's complete backstory and history, nearly all of her powers, and probably this
◊ costume.
Probably can't call her Spider-Woman. That's about it.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.

I'd joke about making her the new Black Widow, but I doubt it'd go well with... a lot of people.
Wake me up at your own risk.
