Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So....do we have any guesses on if Guardians 3 will reveal how Gamora found out the locations of the Soul Stone?
One Strip! One Strip! She found a map. Like an idiot, she memorized it. Then she burned it. And then like a different kind of idiot, she told Nebula about it.
Its not something that needs to be covered in a movie probably. The rumors and leaked information about Guardians 3 have it already pretty packed.

Derek Kolstad, writer of the John Wick movies, talks the Falcon & Winter Soldier
series.
So A.C. Bradley (or Ashley Bradley), writer for Trollhunters and 3Below, is the writer and showrunner
of What If? She's also going to be interviewed by Discussing Film.

Random What If...? question:
Is it me or are they using the same animating technology from Paperman?
It looks like it. They are doing something called cel shading
. It's been done for Star Wars: Resistance and RWBY, too. It probably looks most similar to Iron Man: Armored Adventures.
Also, everything we know so far about the Disney+ shows.

Someone might have mentioned this at some point, but as far as Spiderman goes, what if Sony and Marvel work out a deal to share the character? Like, he would appear in both sets of movies, and the sony movies would be treated like an alternate universe to the marvel ones. Maybe they could even say that its still the same guy, just traveling between universes somehow. Would people be okay with that?
To be fair, the issue wasn't really people talking about it. The issue was the thread getting clogged with never-ending stream of "updates" that were really just internet scoopers speculating with no real evidence ("Some guy on Twitter says his sources inside Disney say that a deal could possibly be reached, but don't be mad if it isn't!"), as well as a bunch of Tweets taking shots at Sony (while conveniently ignoring Disney's part in all this).
If someone genuinely has a question about the whole thing, I don't think that should be off-limits.

@neveratall So your options are
A) Sony keep the profits of their own film while Disney keep theirs, in which case Sony can just keep Spider-man for themselves and not let Disney profit from Spider-man at all.
B) Sony keep the profits for their own films while getting the same cut they've been getting from the mcu films, in which case this is the old deal with Sony getting extra freedom, so Disney might as well just keep the old deal and not give Sony anything.
C) Sony keep the profits of their own films and cut the profits for the mcu ones in a way Disney would agree, in which case Sony has to be sure that their films make more money than what they would get from the old deal, which is unlikely and thus they still profit less than the old deal. If they profit more than the old deal, then they cut off Disney completely.
Why would they agree to this?
So, I haven't followed the whole debacle anymore, but I heared that Spidey really is leaving the MCU now and that Tom wants to continue playing him?
Is this immidiately or will there be another movie to resolve that damn cliffhanger?
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianI just read an article about copyright characters, in summary: Marvel and Sony both agree to whcih one get which character in the Spider-man franchise. It make me wonder: Does those lawyers that work on these stuff know much about the comic book? Imagine those lawyer in suits discussion which character belong in which category, discuss character relationship, which issue they first appeal in? Does this character belong to Spider-man franchise or not?
Lawyer 1: Does this character go to Sony or Disney?
lawyer 2: He appeal in this Spider-man issue so i guess he belong to Sony
lawyer 3 : No, he made his first appearance in this volume of X-men, so it belong to Marvel
lawyer 4: No, that volume is non-canon so we have to start from this volume instead
E.T technically is a Isekai movie
The original contract that Sony signed in 1999 contained all of the characters they could use. It's pretty much everyone that is "associated" with Spider-Man, but not characters that originated in other comics, i.e. J. Jonah Jameson is owned by Sony, but not Johnny Storm.
There are certain characters, like in the Fox deal, that are associated with Spider-Man and originated in other comics, which means that Marvel can use them with certain caveats. Marvel can use Jessica Drew...as long as they don't call her "Spider Woman."

Doctor Strange is first place for me, because I love horror movies, and the MCU has done horror movie scenes in the past. While those are great, a horror movie set in the MCU would scratch that itch I've been waiting for.
The legend has returned.
