Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Ego wins.
Thanos is tough, but what Ego does is far beyond what any other character in the MCU has been able to acomplish without the Infinity Stones, barring Dormmammu.
Remember when he first showed up and wiped out an entire fleet like it was nothing?

MCU also =/= a Versus Debate.
We're not talking about dropping Thanos and Ego into Final Destination. NO ITEMS, NO PREP TIME, NO OUTSIDE HELP, BLOODLUST ACTIVATED, FOX ONLY.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The Guardians were able to kill Ego with a drilling vehicle and a makeshift bomb. Thanos would lose a ton of Chitauri and Outriders but Ego's gonna die.
And if Thanos goes and fetches the Power Stone first (which he was close to getting at the start of GOTG), he could just one-shot the whole planet.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! It'd be an interesting thing to see Thanos going on the warpath against Ego with all his armies, doing a sort of mad blitz into the core of Ego with his forces.
The initial problem is how Thanos would figure Ego's weak spot out, but he does have both the Mind Gem and Ebony Maw, who's quite the genius as it so appears (given he's the one who works out the whole time travel business as per the Russos).
Imagine a War sequence of Thanos carpet bombing the surface of Ego from orbit and then sending his Chitauri and Outrider legions in the freshly exploded core before the smoke clears, headed by the Children of Thanos. Each Child leads a battalion of Outriders/Chitauri drilling to the core while a bombardment to the surface continues to distract Ego. Ebony Maw uses his tekelinesis to burrow a hole through Ego's surface with Thanos if he deems it necessary to go himself.
You know, it's possible Thanos could even use the Mind Stone to "shut down" Ego like Mantis did, in which case it's game over.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Alternatively, Thanos could use the Mind Stone to turn Ego into his slave. I'd imagine that would be incredibly difficult and very much not worth the effort. But if it worked? Yeah, Thanos's army would be a lot more powerful.
Again, we don't know the upper limits of the Mind Stone or if Thanos is the type of person who'd use mind control to gain servants. He might just think killing Ego would be the least risky option.
Only toward the tailend of the fight. Guardians were very close to killing Ego with just an old junky laser-drill ship before he even knew what hit him, and then the Sovereign showed up and ruined everything.
But as Stan Lee would say, the winner would ultimately be whichever victory best suits the story the writer is trying to tell. Which... in this hypothetical, would probably still be Thanos.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I think the combined might of the entirety of Thanos's armed forces and a carpet bombing of the planet would more or less equal fighting a Celestial in terms of "distracting Ego".
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Huh, imagine if instead of putting the power stone back on the gauntlet after he one punched Cap Marvel, he used the stone to one shot the planet and claim victory. But as every villain, he just has to go with the most dramatic win.
As for what if's? How about what if The Avengers made a power point presentation to Thanos on how his plan not only is bonkers, but wouldn't work.

Only if it's presented by WWE's Drew Gulak....unless he's not doing the Power-point presentation joke anymore.
I haven't watched 205 Live in about 2 years( and I hear it's getting cancelled anyway) so I wouldn't know.
One Strip! One Strip!...I don't think it'd work for an episode but I'd love to see, like, a single still-frame image of that.
Like a montage of all the myriad What If? universes are out there. And one of them just has Thanos sitting on a stool, rubbing his chin in contemplation and staring at some charts and graphs on a Powerpoint slide. T'Challa and Tony Stark are standing there with pointers, mouths agape in explanation.
On the wall, there's a sign that reads, "Malthusian Economics 101".

I mean, there can be a way to make an episode of it. Like the Avengers convince Thanos to use their Time machine to go to Titan before the catastrophe and have a televised debate with them on wheter his plan would work or not, for a chance to prove those ingrates that he was right.
BUT!!! Would it work if they give gim an vibranioum Ant-Man suit?
I both hate and love how this idea can bring so many questions...
Edited by eligram on Aug 30th 2019 at 4:40:59 AM

That wouldn't just be a fight. It would be a campaign.
Thanos has the combined forces of the Chitauri, that weird zombie-dog-person army he hit Wakanda with, the Mind Gem, Nebula and Gamora, the Children of Thanos....
Ego has the combined forces of Yondu's Ravagar squad and Ego the Goddamn Living Planet.
