Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Don't forget the entire Twilight franchise.
People love sexy vampires.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. Also those.
Point is, we, as a species, are tremendously fond of sexy shenanigans with terrifying and dangerous inhuman horrors. Which probably says some unpleasant things about us but I'm not a therapist.
...
Why are we talking about this?

Hey, if aliens are real, we'll do real well out in space. We just gotta enroll all the monsterfuckers into the space program, make them ambassadors.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersA fair amount of art and gifsets are still being posted daily, even if it's less active than it used to be. It's quieter but still fairly alive and there's people who enjoy its unique ability to let post collections of texts and images interspersed in ways that other social media sites don't let you.
I still use it myself, but it does feel emptier now. Also, they pissed off gif makers (including myself, a newer gif maker) recently after they made it so that gifs show up as lower quality gifv files on the dashboard and browsing sections.
"Cold and black and infinite, with nothing left to lose."Some of the comments on Tumblr about Venom (particularly the tongue) gave me insights about the human psyche that I wish I didn't.
BTW,
This is wrong: the Symbiote doesn't hate Spider-Man, its characterization is closer to a scorned lover than anything. It constantly threatens innocents and those close to Peter to get his attention.
Keep in mind Venom is not only vastly more powerful than Peter (he's stronger, faster, has a wicked healing factor), the Spider-Sense can't track him. If the Symbiote wanted to kill Peter, there's very little Peter could do to argue the point.

Tumblr made Verizon lose almost $3 billion dollars. I consider that an absolute win.
Anyway I won't criticize people who saw Venom and ended up liking it or those who went in with good/no expectations and ended up hating it.
The people who went in expecting to hate it and did end up hating it on the other hand... They know what they did.
This song needs more love.Wait, seriously? I was under the impression that after Peter realized the Symbiote was making him go to a dark place and got rid of it, the Symbiote would hate Spidey for dumping it.
And if the Symbiote targets innocents and those close to Peter, how is that different from hating him? Aren't they mutually the same thing?

IIRC, the whole "the symbiote makes Peter more hateful and negative" thing was invented after the fact by Spider-Man: The Animated Series. It's just been used in every adaptation since.
The comics however, as far as I know, have always retained the "jilted lover" concept for it.
Yeah. Adaptations like to go with "The symbiote is liquid evil and was making Peter evil" because it's a quick and easy explanation for why he got rid of it.
IIRC, in the original comics, the rationale for discarding the symbiote was because Reed Richards discovered it was alive and Peter thought that was gross.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Flash Thompson as Venom was the best thing that's ever been done with either character, honestly. Two jilted assholes who spent their lives pissed off at people who never loved or wanted them, who took that anger out on others, but who always wanted to be Spider-Man, now leaning on one another to help each other heal.
It was the match made in heaven that seemed so obvious once it existed.

The Shape of Water and Beauty and the Beast have shown the “monster thirst” audience can be quite lucrative. XD
