Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I recall some people saying that Loki's "The Reason You Suck" Speech to Natasha about "working for liars and killers" could suggest he was aware of HYDRA to some degree, though how much is unknown.
I think liars and killers could equally describe any intelligence organization
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWasn't there a line in Avengers that implies that Hydra is working with Loki? I think the mind controlled Hawkeye says "SHIELD has other enemies" in reply to how they managed to get so much equipment and team so fast.
One of the mind controlled SHIELD agents could have spilled the beans for Loki too.

So Spider-Man: Far From Home is getting its extended cut out into theaters tomorrow.
People.
I know FFH was great, but PLEASE. Vote with your wallets by not paying to see this extended cut.
Tell Sony that they don't deserve your money if they're just going to take Spidey away from the MCU.
The new scene is Jameson going, "Whoops, never mind!" at the end of the stinger.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.- Beck: Spider-Man is... TONY STARK!!!
- Jameson: Well, that doesn't sound right at all! Goddammit, can't I just have ONE THING that isn't about Tony Stark?! ONE THING. That's all I want.
*Re-release does badly.*
“Whoops, this proves nobody misses MCU Spidey.”.

That’s another thing. Playing chicken with film studios is a bad idea, since kiboshing is always safer than retrying when fan bases aren’t stable.
See also: Star Wars fans thinking boycotting Solo would get them a Boba Fett movie, only for Disney to conclude that side movies weren’t profitable instead and cancel all their planned character films... including a potential Boba Fett movie.

When was that a thing? Solo bombed, but this is the first time I've heard "Everybody boycotted the film so that Disney would make the Boba Fett movie they were already making" offered as a reason for why.
That said, I agree with your general assertion. I remember years ago when fans wanted to organize a boycott of all Fox-driven X-Men and Fantastic Four films so that they'd tank, Fox would stop making them, and the rights would revert to Marvel. That boycott never actually went anywhere, but IIRC Marvel Studios did release a statement on it.
Basically, it amounted to, "You shouldn't be trying to make the X-Men and F4 movies fail. I know you want us to be making those movies instead, but even if we got the rights back, why would we make movies about franchises that the public has proven disinterest in?"
See also: Ghost Rider being relegated to a short appearance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the dumping grounds for characters Marvel doesn't really care about. He's getting his own show now because he wound up being super-popular on Agents, but the fact that Agents got first dibs on him in the first place rather aptly demonstrates the company's position on the character's films.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.You know, voting with your money only really works when you can make clear what you’re voting for.
Anyone can not watch a movie for any number of reasons. One could simply not like reboots or sequels or extended cuts.
Point is: voting with your money is the same as voting for a candidate- if that’s the only thing you’re doing, you’re not really saying anything specific beyond “I approve of this”.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Honestly, I'd be interested if Sony even kept The Stinger for the re-release. If they did, they're at least interested in following this plot thread even if the deal with Marvel Studios fell apart. If not, then we should be really concerned about Tom Holland's future in the role.
Voting with your wallet makes perfect sense. If it's a good product, you should buy it. That tells the company it's a good product. If it's a bad product, you should not buy it. That tells the company it's a bad product.
Protesting with your wallet is where things get wonky. If you don't buy a ticket to the Extended Cut, all that tells Sony and Marvel is that you are not interested in the Extended Cut. It says nothing else.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, but in this case the issue isn't that the movie sucks. It's that the maker/s of the movie are being stupid and we want to express our anger at them.
Personally, I'm not big on rewatching extended cuts anyway. I'll wait for a description of what was added or wait for the Bluray.

I could see HYDRA assuming that Loki was keeping tabs on them enough to know about their presence, but not care. Especially if, in the coming days or weeks, Thor told anybody about Heimdall.
Come to think of it, there is a good chance Loki or Thanos knew about HYDRA, and just didn't care enough to target them for any reason. It's not like they had any reason to consider one militarized Terran organization any more exceptional than any other - they didn't consider SHIELD a threat, why HYDRA?
