Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

In case Thor ever went MAD WITH POWER Eitri would walk up to him and say "Gorr was right"
And Thor would be like "Whomst?" and suddenly Mjolnir would go thunk and he'd be unable to pick it up again
But I think probably not. Nidavellir was an allied state of Asgard's and they might not have needed to make precautions against them and also it would be undiplomatic if it were discovered.
But Thanos is a big purple asshole who rolls into town and starts extorting doomsday weapons out of you with threats of violence and plans to do a Very Bad Thing so slipping in a secret weakness is worth it.
Thanos ended up killing all the other dwarves and dunking Eitri's hands in molten metal but he would have done that anyway on principle.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersIf they did have a backdoor for Mjolnir, I wonder if that's how Hela was able to get around its enchantment and destroy it.
Also, I hope we'll see Eitri again in Love and Thunder. We don't know what happened to him in Endgame, and last we saw he was left alone on Nidavellir with his people still dead. I hope the Asgardians picked him up to live in New Asgard or something.
I assume the worthiness clause was the backdoor.
It's just that Hela was still somehow worthy.
One Strip! One Strip!Hela was Mjolnir's original owner, I was under the impression that that's how she was able to snatch it.

Come to think of it, maybe that's why Thor is more powerful with Stormbreaker.
Mjolnir may have suited him (and helped him channel and focus his power) but it wasn't made for him the way Stormbreaker was.

One Strip! One Strip!Someone on Twitter came up with a take of the D23 teaser
for WandaVision.
There wasn't ACTUAL footage shown, but clips from The Dick Van Dyke Show spliced with moments between Vision and Wanda. Also the music gets progressively creepier.
If Hela can overpower its magic enough to destroy, then there's no reason she can't overpower its magic enough to merely block it.

Well, Odin said it was meant to focus power, maybe limit it so it didn't get too out of control.
Is it possible that....maybe when Hela rebelled, she ditched the hammer because she realized it was actually holding her back?
And as such, her destroying it was something of a middle finger to Odin, and to show Thor how far above him she was?

For context: Mikey Sutton, who was one of the first to report the initial Disney/Sony deal to share Spider-Man stated that the companies might have something in a week.
I was just casually replying to someone who was asking about Sutton when a different someone replied saying it isn't happening and we should move on and was overall being a buzzkill.
I blocked them and then they went and called me an "Autobot shill".

Wow. That was uncalled for.
I can't blame you for getting out of there. That was clearly gonna go bad.
Edit: So, when they finally go all in with Nova, who do you think they'll use: Richard or Sam?

One Strip! One Strip!

The explanation I heard is that Eitri, being almost no-one's fool, built the Gauntlet with a backdoor that could be exploited by Stormbreaker
I wish that it had been stated in the movie because that's pretty rad. Its Thanos getting screwed over for being such a dick to the dwarves.
