Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Tom Holland is now on-stage at D23.
Because he's in the Pixar movie Onward.
This song needs more love.Oh boy, yeah. The ratings for C&D on Freeform sucked. It never even got over a million and the second season was barely doing 0.3 million. I know it's a cable show, but those still aren't good numbers. Moving to Disney+ was probably saving it from cancellation.
But also: Cloak & Dagger is made by Marvel Television. And now it's on Disney+. So Jeph Loeb was completely correct.

> "Great, now I'm somehow picturing an audience member in the back shouting "I'll pray for you, Spider-Man!"

Grown-ish
is one of their more popular shows and you can see that it doesn't do great in the ratings, but it's doing better than C&D.
Tom Holland walked off the stage saying "I know it's been a crazy week, but from the bottom of my heart I love you 3000."
Ball's in Sony's court.

EDIT:

What do you mean?

Just that it's up to Sony to try and sell their new MCU-less Spider-Man when it seems like everyone, including Holland, would rather he stay in the MCU.
Yeah...good luck doing Spidey without Marvel Studios, Sony.
I’m betting that anything Sony says regarding Spidey at this point in time will only get everyone to just riot.
I know I said I wouldn’t take sides anymore, but I still think Sony thinking they can do no wrong based on Venom and Into the Spider-Verse strikes me as a red flag.
Something like Venom 2 can only benefit from the MCU touch.
And weird realization, allegedly, Rothman and the top brass at Sony had no faith in Into the Spider-Verse and just thought it'd go nowhere. They were wrong.

Honestly if Sony keeps the whole Spider-Man film rights, they should just let Miller and Lord run wild with Spider-Verse and maybe Venom. It's for the best, lest we have another Spider-Man 3 or The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Considering what happens right after that...
This song needs more love.Tom's "it's been a crazy week" does bring up a good point (although I don;t think it's what Tom intended). It's only been a week since the news of the Disney/Sony fallout broke. A week.
While I'm generally not an optimist about these sorts of things, but I think it's entirely possible the debacle can be or will be settled in a month, or even 6 months. I'm not convinced this is a done deal yet.
I still think a couple solo Sony-produced Spidey films with Tom Holland and the rest of the cast isn't going to do any harm.

Like creepy stories? Check out my book!I think if Holland continues spiting Sony in public, it's going to only increase the likelihood that Sony recasts and reboots rather than making solo-produced Spidey films with him.

They also Gemma Chan is Sersi in The Eternals. By the by, Gemma Chan also played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel. Man, I remember way back in SDCC 2019 when they announced that Mahershala Ali would be playing Blade and everyone was all "But he also played Cottonmouth in Luke Cage! So this means that the Netflix shows are definitely non-canon! They would never cast the same actor twice in two roles! (Pshhh, Alfre Woodard doesn't count.)"
Suck it, those people.
Also, Kit Harrington is playing Dane Whitman and honestly? Yeah, I can totally see that. I do wonder if they'll have MI-13 make an appearance in the film, because I would love to see Pete Wisdom and especially Faiza Hussain in the MCU.
