Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Once again, I really have a hard time shedding tears for Marvel not having the film rights to Spider-Man when they're still the dominant pop culture force on the planet right now. And I felt similarly years ago when fans kept insisting Fox had an obligation to give back the X-Men because Marvel deserved them or some bullshit.
I'm sure they'll make it through this difficult time.

So you know what I would do if I was in Sony's shoes? Aside of because I would love it as a fan...
Accept the conditions that was posted before, plus asking for total access, control and financial gain (Or at least 95%/5%) in all of Marvel's IP for animated movies. Both Disney nor Marvel seems ibterested in doing animated films.
After all, Sony already showed themselves capable with Into the Spider-Verse. Imagine other's properties done in the same style, more faithful to comics and not bounded by live action limitations of what one could do.
And while I could understand wanting to go with big names heroes first like Iron-man and the other's avengers, I would go with heroes more adecuate for animation, like Moon girl, Squirrel-girl, Miss Marvel.
Hell, give me a Hawkeye Matt Fraction adaptation in the same style of ITSV and I would give you all the money!!!!

I think we should be more concerned that Sony may have not only shot themselves in the foot by refusing to compromise with Disney, but will bleed out until it's too late to cauterize the wound. Spidey is Sony Pictures' only profitable franchise now that they no longer have Bond, but now with both Avi Arad and Tom "Barakapool and Fant4stic are good ideas" Rothman in charge instead of Marvel Studios, they look poised to repeat all the mistakes that led to them making the Disney deal in the first place, and then some. This could easily lead to Sony Pictures getting sold off by Sony Corporation to, let's say, Comcast, and thus further consolidating corporate media power.

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryI like Spider Man where he is.
I wanted to see him in College (which is probably one of his best eras alongside his time married to MJ), I want to see live action Miles etc. I want to see him part of the universe.
I do hate how they keep tying him to Tony Stark, but I've been beginning to suspect part of that might be Marvel / Disney's attempt to make him more tied to their universe than Sony's products. Maybe subtly hint to the latter that he's better when he's in that world, along with all his characters as opposed to stupidly trying to create their own verses for each of them.
I get on an intellectual level that it's all about money for both sides, but that doesn't help in the slightest. Quit being jackasses, work something out, give the fans what they want, because your money comes from them.
Unfortunately, from their point of view their wallets won't take all that huge a dent so why worry? I wish we could disprove that in some way, make both sides suffer as much as possible. Make them regret ever doing this shit.
But that won't happen. Plus, it's likely not all that productive either.
I'm just...sick of this shit.
One Strip! One Strip!Last I checked, the Black Knight wasn't an Eternal....unless there's something about him I don't know that is.
One Strip! One Strip!Marvel's portion is done. No Spider-Man.

Then again, Disney did let him do the FF/X-Embargo.
