Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I want to say "Yes it does" If most of the creative team are working for Disney/Marvel then a pure Sony production may not have access to that talent, for various reasons, contract or just not impressed with Sony. Its more than a name that makes a movie its all the moving parts, they will need at least some (if not all) of the creative team that made the first two films smash hits to give the new Sony only film a shot at keeping that quality up.
It also depends on Sony to keep its hands off, Feige was pretty good about that, he hired good people and for the most part let them work, Sony has a habit of meddling (See SM 3, GB Reboot) so even if they get the same team...if Sony tries to be more 'hands on' it could wreck the movie and cause defections.
Hey, how credible is John Campea? Because he might've brought in a new wrinkle to the situation...
Apparently, Sony offered a 30/70 split with Marvel, but Marvel wanted all the control and 50% of all Spider-Movies, including Morbius, Kraven, and Jackpot.
Uh...
Always beware of the Random You Tuber with "Sources Inside the Studio" when they do not name the source, the only people that can get away with the 'Confidential Source' are actual journalists working for actual news outlets
But Holland might not be as reciprocal according to how his Instagram doesn't have Sony Pictures in his "following" list anymore.
Which might not be a good thing for hopes of a follow-up on Far From Home's conclusion. I know there's been some conversation around the idea that Sony will continue with Tom Holland, making their own Spider-films.
But if Holland makes too many waves telling Sony to eat a dick, they might just decide to go for a full reboot rather than try to work with an insubordinate lead actor.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Wasn't there a claim before that part of the reason why MCU Spidey's supporting cast was so radically different than their comics versions was to get around copyrights concerning those comic characters? Meaning Marvel owns the films rights to "MJ" Michelle Jones, Sony owns the rights to Mary-Jane Watson, etc.
Guess I'll look forward to seeing Zendaya in a supersuit come Avengers 5.
Yeah, Midnight's Edge made that claim, but it doesn't make any sense. They specifically cited Aunt May, but "May Parker, except she's in her 40s now" isn't the same thing as creating a new, legally distinct character. By that logic, every single character who has ever undergone some sort of significant change in an adaptation would legally be a new character, which is not the case.

Clearly the Aunt May spin-off movie

So, in other news, Amy Berg lost out in becoming a writer for the Hawkeye series...because another writer had already been hired.
Amy Berg is a former writer for Person of Interest and Leverage, so if they had hired her, it would have been a pretty good sign. At this moment, we don't know who they hired, but they are a friend of Berg's.

If this deal really does wind up getting broken off, I hope Tom Holland and the rest of the cast aren't still conscripted to do subsequent Spider-Man films.
It'd be weird having him in the role when it's no longer connected to the MCU at all.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!

I may be considered too optimistic for saying this, but I really hope for a fair end about this situation that will please everyone.
"Scooby Dooby Doo!"
