Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Disney's offering to have Spider-Man interacting with other Marvel superheroes, which is something everyone's been wanting since the MCU got big?
Which is useless to Sony, who doesn't get money from those films. They mightnote care if Disney actually offers money for the crossovers, but Disney's not going to do that since it'd severely hamper their own ability to use Spider-Man
And while Venom made back its money and then some, it was not a critical success, which MCU movies turn out to be.
Which matters to the actual studio because...?
Every time I see this, I resent having watched Venom more and more. Both because the film is incredibly disappointing and because No Such Thing as Bad Publicity must've been a great reason for its commercial success.
Then again, as per negotiation rules, you have to start with a higher bid than you'd actually accept, but not an offer so outrageous that will offend the other party (which is what Disney did, it seems). So yeah, both sides got cocky and screwed everything up.
... And that's called jazz!Thats what Yogurt tells us.

I see them coming back to the table in due time, I mean both companies LIKE money and the MCU is a Powerhouse. Its not clear (I can't find out one way or another) if Holland and Co. Contracts is with Sony or Disney/Marvel. If its the former then yeah they can use Holland but that brings its own problems. Holland is contracted for three solo films, Marvel/Disney had plans for 4, but that was before this mess started. So the 4th film is now REALLY up in the air. Its possible that the team will fill out its contract and walk after the third film which would mean yet ANOTHER reboot unless a deal is struck.
If the contract is with Disney/Marvel then Sony may have to buy out that contract to get Holland...and that is if Holland wants to make the film for Sony, he could walk and well that WOULD be a disaster.
Disney in a way DOES have Sony over a barrel, since any true continuation of FFH will involve the larger MCU in someway and given the spat might be harder to do the third film if they have to purge or downplay the MCU elements, the backlash could continue even if they make the last Spider Film with MCU elements since its possible fans will boycott the film resulting in a lesser box-office take.
Remember in the Spider-Man: Far From Home thread when I explained the Marvel Studios-Sony Pictures deal? Well, when it said that both parties can end the deal anytime they wanted, I think that it was some sort of warning that part.
I may be just an observer in this part, but I just wish so hard those news I've heard were not true. I hope both parties could renew their deal.

"Scooby Dooby Doo!"If I have to choose who's in the right between the roided up mouse that has your childhood's balls grasped tightly in its grip and the bane of animation fans everywhere, I'm going to have to go with Disney on this one. I realize Sony wants the money, but I think it should make better stuff.
Fair enough.

The legend has returned."I realize Sony needs the money"
What a weird thing to say. Are they running out of operating cash? "Wants" may be a better word there.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Actually, I still recall reading about murmurs that Sony is sort of having financial issues and considered ditching their film and TV divisions, but that hasn't been brought up in some time.

Admittedly, the only good thing Sony Animations has produced in recent times is a Spider-Man movie.
At this point, you just appear to willfully being misunderstanding any and all of my arguments and making claims that are completely unsubstantiated.
Because those movies aren't that good. Well, I enjoyed MiBI, but I don't have any illusions about it representing some kind of resurgence of the franchise. Also, their marketing is terrible: I didn't even know Angry Birds 2 was a thing until after it released.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So something I thought about last night, Marvel Studios has lost the film rights to Spidey right?
But, don't they still have the TV rights? Hypothetically, they could make a Spider-Man series on Disney+ starring Tom Holland and Sony can't do a thing about it.
Of course, realistically, they're probably contracts forbidding them from pulling a stunt like this. Sony probably owns the rights to Holland's Spider-Man and his supporting cast, so Disney doing something like this is incredibly unlikely.
But maybe this is how we can get Mile Morales into the MCU? Peter retires off-screen, and Miles steps up to take his place? Yeah, we'll never see him in a MCU movie, but he could crossover with the other Plus shows. Hypothetically, anyway...

"So it turns out that after J.J.Simmons outed Pete to the whole world, he just kinda petered out as Spider-Man and left the whole hero scene, but now there's a whole new Spider-Man around!"
Actually, yeah, now thinking about it, how would they justify Peter and Spider-Man's disappearance from the MCU if this doesn't get fixed?

So Disney got profit from everything about Spiderman except the Spiderman movies profit?
E.T technically is a Isekai movie
