Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I have to be honest after giving it some thought, I'd be okay if Spider-Man were removed from the MCU. Like I would obviously prefer if he wasn't and Tom Holland is fantastic in the role but looking at the Comic-Con announcements and there is so much to look forward to that doesn't involve Spidey at all.

Reminds me of my headcanon that Garfield's Spider-Man died fighting the Rhino after the screen cut to black in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
In fact, what is it with Spider-Man works ending on downer cliffhangers?

That one actually has a Bittersweet Ending — Pete and MJ reconcile after Harry's death and share a dance.

x3 Harry takes the sharp pointy thing for Spidey, Venom and Eddie get blown to bits by a pumpkin bomb, Peter and Harry become best friends again as Harry lays dying, Peter chooses to forgive Sandman and lets him get away, and the movie ends as Peter and MJ just stand there silently against the sunrise.
So, bittersweet and a bit too wrapped-up to be a cliffhanger.

"Cynic, n. — A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be." - The Devil's DictionaryHot take - the best spider-man films are those not in MCU: Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
If we get Ironheat its gonna make all that stuff about Peter being Tony's successor weird.
Like death can stop a person's influence on the world.
Half the problems in Game of Thrones is exactly because of the shit dead people left behind.
Goddamn Rhaegar & Lyanna!

Also, there was a Captain America movie about fixing problems created by Tony Stark, and at least one Avengers movie about that subject.
In Far From Home and Homecoming, the villains were Iron Man villains. Happy had a large role. Peter was told over and over again he was Iron Man's heir. He developed a suit with Tony's technology. There were Iron Man pictures everywhere. Tony had a flashback cameo in FFH and a minor role in Homecoming. Vulture and Mysterio are Spider-Man villains in the comics, but they reimagined both as people pissed off at Tony, with Vulture being a guy screwed out of his salvaging company by Damage Control, while Mysterio was inspired by Tony's terrible behavior and just after Spider-Man so he could get Tony's glasses.
Okey Dokey!Much as I like Disney's works, I hate corporate hegemony and would be totally open to the company being fed some humble pie with respect to its current quest to buy the rights to ALL THE STUFF. No empire can last forever.
I just... don't want that to take the form of a corporate peen-waving contest that leaves the creators and fans holding the bag.

Fun fact: if not for Disney
, under pre-1976 copyright law Spider-Man would’ve entered the public domain as of last January.
Please don't watch Midnight's Edge, he's a comicgater.
And, it seems that is officially official: Sony reps have confirmed that their deal is over and put all blame on Disney.

But it was still Sony who left the table.
