Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Hey guys, what's happened...?
"NO MORE MCU!SPIDER-MAN MOVIES."
.......................
What. In the actual. ASS?!
THAT'S NOT FAIR! FFH MADE OVER A BILLION DOLLARS! I'M STILL NOT OVER LOSING SPIDEY IN INFINITY WAR! AND I'M STILL NOT OVER WHAT HAPPENED IN FFH'S MID-CREDITS SEQUENCE!
IN WHAT TIMELINE IS IT A GREAT IDEA TO NOT DO ANY MORE AFTER THAT MID-CREDITS SCENE?!
THIS WAS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO SPIDEY AND SONY SOMEHOW FUCKED IT UP! HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TO US?!
ALL I WANTED WAS A SPIDER-MAN/DEADPOOL MOVIE! IS THAT SO HARD TO ASK FOR?!
...I think I need to lie down.
50% is too much, yeah, but it sounds like Sony wanted to keep things exactly as they were.

This song needs more love.@Targetmaster: Especially because it seems like Disney seems to have shit the bed this time around.
Increasing the profit cut is not unreasonable, but to jump from 5% to 50% is the kind of deal only a complete, pants-in-the-head delusional lunatic would take.
So while I cannot believe I'm saying this, Sony is in the right, here.

Wait upon reading that again, it looks like Disney was asking for 50/50 co-financing which, and I might be wrong, is different from asking for 50% of profits.
This song needs more love.I mean, if they keep Mc Kenna and Sommers, I doubt it'll matter too much in any event.
@HailMuffins:
Okay, how about Disney renegotiate and have 10%?
Look, Sony CANNOT be 100% in charge of a Spidey-franchise. Venom squeaked along because of word of mouth for all the wrong reasons.
Literally NOBODY cares about freaking Morbius.
And the only reason ITSV was so good was because of the cast and crew, not the top brass at Sony.
DO YOU WANT THEM TO REPEAT THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN SERIES FIASCO?
FORGET LYING DOWN! HOW CAN ANYONE LIE DOWN WHEN THE END OF DAYS IS HERE?!
According to Variety, the deal isn't over.
That said, this is a bad precedent. I fully expect that, if they make a deal for at least one more movie, that would be the last one. Marvel won't be risking messing with their continuity and keep introducing Spider-man elements that could be removed at any moment.

Asking for more money is reasonable. Asking for half is insane.
Being a Marvel fan these days is a long story of having corporate politics ruin your ability to enjoy the characters and plots you want, so cynically speaking I'm almost used to this kind of crap. But it's still annoying.
