Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The Marvel Comics nerd in me found a lot to love in it, but the critical jackass in me found a lot to scorn too. <.< I have a hard time engaging with films on a Thermian level these days. I've consumed so much media in my life that I now usually wind up engaging more with the devices of storycraft than with the actual characters and universe.
I see things like Banner and Hulk's offscreen reconciliation and I don't think, "It's so cool that they made peace during the time skip." I think, "Wow, just threw that plot point right out the f*cking window, didn't we?"
I see things like Iron Man's sacrifice and I don't think, "What a noble and heroic thing he's doing." I think, "What an appropriate and compelling conclusion for his character arc."
I still cry at sad scenes and get happy at happy scenes and stuff. But my takeaways are usually "Could this scene have been done better?" or "Did this subplot go anywhere?" rather than "Can this character beat up that character?" or "Does Bob deserve happiness?"

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Bob will only quit Hydra if he gets a better offer, and I'm not sure A.I.M. is really that much—
...
You know what? A.I.M. isn't literally Nazis, so I take it back. Go ahead, Bob. Be an Agent of A.I.M. Embrace it.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I still really enjoy the film myself, but I'd say my biggest gripe that is carried over from Infinity War would be most of everything surrounding the Soul Stone. I get that they wanted to have it be mysterious and esoteric, but I have a bunch of questions in regards to how it actually works.
Also, I can kinda see why they didn't keep in most of the deleted scenes, but they should have kept in the scene where the heroes knell in honor of Tony's sacrifice. It was more poignant that way. Was there any reason other than time why they didn't include it?

Don't catch you slippin' now.
They mentioned that that scene was kind of redundant, since the panning shot during Tony's funeral basically hit the same emotional beats. Putting them back to back just made the ending feel a bit repetitive.

You can either have the kneeling scene or the funeral. Doing both crosses the line from honoring the end of Tony's journey to just plain stopping the movie to wank off about his character.
In film, there is such a thing as too much closure.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I would've preferred the kneel rather than the funeral since the funeral isn't particularly memorable in my opinion. Or rather than have it be for Tony specifically, it could have been more general, especially since Black Widow only gets a relatively short scene of rememberance.
Don't catch you slippin' now.True, but I'm more so saying that the scene itself could've been handled differently. As I said before, they could've made it into a more general memorial rather than what they ended up doing.
Also, is it true that the cast was Acting in the Dark in regards to that particular scene? If that is the case, that may be what my problem with it is. Compared to the usual good acting, it just feels kinda flat.

Don't catch you slippin' now.Looks like the Marvel-Sony deal is no more. Feige and Marvel Studios won't be involved with the next Spider-Man movie[1]
So...I guess that means Spider-Man will be recast again, will he?

It doesn't sound like they're recasting just yet.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers

And now I've seen Endgame again. I think I liked that more the 2nd time around, even if it has some serious misfires (much of the humor regarding Thor's physique, Nat's death, Cap's ending, the all-female charge) that keep it from scoring above an 8/10 for me. Actually, in terms of personal enjoyment I'd probably give this an 8-9/10, but being more objective and considering its flaws it's more around the 6-7/10 range. This was gonna be a longer post weighing more of the good and bad but I gave up partway through completion.
For anyone who's seen Endgame multiple times, how's it fared on rewatch?
