Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I approve of Jackie Chan, but everything sounds lame.

For him, that is. I want over-the-top acrobatic martial arts action, the semi-realistic style used in John Wick isn't a good fit, and I don't think Shadow Clones would look good in Live-Action.

And before you say anything, the none of Stranges clones got into meelee range.

You know, it dawns on me....Thor probably never found out about the events of Captain America: Civil War for some time.

The times he was back on earth after that debacle were either very short or in the midst of a huge battle. Then the opening of Avengers: Endgame happened and he was more focused on either kicking Thanos' ass or feeling miserable.

It's entirely possible he went years not knowing of those events now that I think about it. Hell, maybe he never even found out at all. I mean, after the Blip / Decimation / Snap / whatever the hell they call it, the entirety of Civil War probably seemed unimportant.

[up][up][up]He had the clones for a specific storyline and then they were pretty much never used again. I doubt that power will show up.

I like to think that they sat Thor down and explained that sometimes Stevie and Tony fight and can't see each other anymore and its not his fault.

Hey, Thor totally knew about Civil War. He said so:

It's just he didn't have a phone and nobody sent him a raven, like he requested.

Thor: so you fight between each other?

Vision: you destroy your own homeworld?

Thor:.....fair.

Maybe Heimdall told Thor all about it and they were laughing about it for five minutes before Thanos showed up.

Why have the meta awesome moments been removed from the MCU movie pages?

It clogs up the pages.

Plus, meta awesome moments don't really fit on Moment of Awesome pages, as they are meant to be about the contents of the film itself and not on its impact on the real world unless its in the Real Life section.

Thor's known since the first Avengers that humans were petty. And tiny. So he may have just seen the civil war as tiny, petty business as usual on Midgard.

Amanda Seyfried Apparently Turned Down the Role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy

I turned down one [superhero role] once and they haven’t called back since. And it was a big’un. I don’t regret it because I didn’t want to be green for six months out of every year. They tell beautiful stories through superheroes, and my daughter’s now really obsessed with superheroes now, and part of me wishes I’d done it, but the other part of me is like ‘I had a life to live’ and I don’t think I would’ve been happy.

Clearly her absence was all part of Zoe Saldana’s scheme to be in the upcoming Number 1 movie dethroning the previous Number 1 movie.

So, I've been rewatching the final battle from Endgame, and I don't know if it has been mentioned before, but I spotted an error.

After Clint give T'Chala the gauntlet, you can see Giant-Man figthing a Leviathan, but by that point he should be in the van whit Wasp fixing the quantum machine.

Also, about sending the gautlent to the quantum machine in the van? That machine wasn't prepared like the quantum tunnel, so what was the plan? Hope that each stones reached their original timeline and not doom them?

I know Thanos was a big threat and everything, but they should've hold the line instead of choosing the easy way out without thinking in the consecuences.

I think the idea there was to throw the Gauntlet into the Quantum Realm to keep it out of the way, then go to retrieve it after Thanos had been dealt with.

Now that makes sense. Thanks for fixing the movie for me again. (Well maybe not that much if you think about it, but I don't want to ruin the movie anymore so turning my brain now) evil grin

So they're auctioning off all the costumes and props from the Marvel Netflix shows...

And in an interesting twist (to me at least), is that the Daredevil costume got bought by Daredevil showrunner Steven DeKnight.

Probably means nothing in regards to a potential return (or a proper induction into the MCU?) for the Man Without Fear, but...

I would love it if Steven S. DeKnight wrote and directed a Daredevil movie — it doesn't have to be big budget and they can make it R-rated, like Deadpool. But c'mon, Disney, you can use the same actors!
