Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

She also represented one unlucky guy who suffered a Freak Lab Accident at Roxxon Industries. The accident ruined his life since it turns out being an atomic superhuman paragon of might is worse than useless if you want to have a life as anything but a superhero or supervillain.
Disgusted, but not surprisedThat was from Dan Slott's run, when she worked at Goodman, Lieber, Kurtzberg, & Holliway
.
Someone made a chart of every character who's held an infinity stone.
@Ally Oop Eh, MCU films are kinda weirdly low budget anyway. If every movie made full use of the mountains of money it has as support then I'd think that'd be a fun idea.
Just Having FunSome good and accurate gaffs at Endgame in this one. At the end of the day I think Endgame is a highly enjoyable, well-made, emotionally resonant conclusion to the Infinity Saga...that at the same time happens to have a whole bunch of bullshit and stupidity strewn about.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)That One Punch Woman remark for Captain Marvel really makes me want to see a similar character arc for her in Captain Marvel 2. Basically, she's become so strong that nothing's a challenge for her anymore after the events of Endgame. As a result, she's bored out of her mind. Of course, she's a lot different from Saitama in terms of personality, but that baseline's a very interesting place to start with.
The legend has returned. That kind of character arc works for Saitama because he's a depressed NEET who lives alone in a crappy neighborhood and has no friends, his actual character arc is about him converting his hobby into a career, making friends in his new line of work, and moving into a better neighborhood, all to improve his mental health. He's just not aware of it because he's obsessed with finding a Worthy Opponent.
That doesn't work so well for Carol, who has friends, a family, a nice home, and is admired as a hero throughout the galaxy.

Carol also just plain isn't a Blood Knight. I think if she found herself in a position where she had the unparalleled power to right all wrongs in the universe and no force of evil could ever stand up to her, she'd think that was a pretty awesome deal and get right to work.
The same is true for most superheroes, really. It works for One Punch Man because that's a shonen anime/manga, which is all about training hard to overcome greater and greater nemeses. But this isn't shonen. It's hard to picture Captain America, Iron Man, Superman, Batman, etc. sitting around moping 'cause they don't have any villains who can take them in a fight. They don't do it for thrill of battle. They do it to save lives.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Yeah, but that was arguably at it's strongest back in his first movie.
I love Saitama...but he's kinda a prick, what with just sitting around doing jack because he only cares about making himself satisfied. Though he's getting better in regards to doing more heroic things, even if it's mostly by accident.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah, but what he's satirizing is a genuine phenomenon.
The ur-example of the shonen hero is Son Goku, a man whose desire to protect lives comes secondary to his desire for an interesting and compelling fight.
After pulling his team together to score a miracle victory against the genocidal conqueror Vegeta, Goku let him leave in the hopes that one day, he will come back to wipe out the Earth even stronger than before and Goku can have another thrilling fight with him.
Spider-Man would call that logic "crazy-town banana-pants".

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's not really that common even in Shonen. Goku is one of the only real examples of taking the Blood Knight thing too far. And it's explained in-universe as being a very common (though not universal) inherent trait of pure-blooded Saiyans.
Heck, DBZ arguably deconstructs that mindset by showing the consequences of it. Both Goku and Vegeta allow very bad shit to happen because they want a good fight.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersHe's stopped doing that since the end of Z. He hasn't endangered the world once in Super, and has done everything in his power to save it...
...well, not counting the second Frieza fight. It was said that if he and Goku cooperated, they'd have won that fight hands down, but they both refused to do that due to Saiyan Pride (though that one was more in Vegeta's case).
While they both were still unwilling after the entire thing was over (even though the earth blew up and it was only a cosmic reset that fixed it), they both do work together better later on...as in they're willing...not that they work together well.
I guess the Avengers are better; they're fighting has only destroyed the planet one time.
I still don’t understand where the fuck Saiyan pride comes from
They don’t have jack to be proud of. And it’s not like Vegeta shies away from fighting in groups if it helped take on someone stronger.
It’s like Vegeta made up Saiyan pride out of wholecloth someday after Namek and then Goku just decided it was real if Vegeta said so

Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's pretty much Cultural Posturing from someone overcompensating for being reduced from a Prince to a glorified slave to the guy who took everything from him.
Disgusted, but not surprised

Squirrel Girl that deliberately cheaps out on the budget of fight scenes would be nice.
