Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Changing the subject, do we have any word on a Captain Marvel sequel? I admit to glazing over the SDCC lineup announcement, so I may have missed it.

"Feige confirmed the film is in development at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con."

Based on the other movies with dates announced, its not going to be until 2022 or 23 at the earliest it seems

I think it was in the 'and this is happening' section; so kind of soft-confirmed but with zero details

[up][up][up] At the end of the presentation Kevin Feige confirmed that Captain Marvel 2, Black Panther 2, the Fantastic Four, and some kind of Mutants movie were all happening.

They just decided to focus on the next two years of movies and Disney+ shows in the actual presentation.

To speculate on what it will entail, I will say the fact they cast the adult Monica Rambeau for WandaVision indicates that it will probably take place in the "modern" time period. But that's just an educated guess.

I wonder if the two-years period between FFH and the next Webhead movie will influence the narrative in some manner.

And Blade. Revealed after that group, but presumably part of the same time frame of movies.

It's weird to me that this is the entire Phase 4, especially with how it's ending, not with an Avengers film, but with Thor: Love and Thunder.

I don't think this is the entire Phase 4. It's just the next two years of films.

That’s pretty short phase. And the first film isn't even a follow up to the Infinity Saga.

I guess some epic stuff's going to happen in Four: Love and Thunder.

Of those five Phase 4 films, it's going to be interesting to see how the marketing for The Eternals and Shang Chi goes, because I'm going to bet my bottom lip that nobody outside of comic fans has the slightest idea what those are.

All things considered I think I'm the most excited for Eternals by far, since it's got a REALLY cool and interesting cast, a supposedly very talented director, and the concept just has so much potential.

Ehh, Eternals is too much of a unknown factor for me to be hyped about it.

I'm looking forward the most for Blade and Shang Chi.

Same here. Like Black Panther, Eternals has a lot of good names attached to it and sounds promising but it's too much of a wild card. Meanwhile Shang Chi sounds like it's doing many of the right things, and Blade... is Blade.

I expect one of the unknowns will fail miserably

One of them will be an unexpected hit

And Blade will be kinda predicable because audiences will already be familiar with Blade due to the previous three films

It was almost half a decade between Infinity War being announced and being released and that didn't stop me from getting hyped, either.

I am actually kinda hyped with the two unknown, because as a result I have absolutely no idea what to expect from them. The result could be anything, and that got my curiosity at least.

But I admit I am both hyped and concerned for Blade. On the one hand, I am enthousiastic about vampires being added to the MCU. On the other hand, I am concerned they might end up just being generic Always Chaotic Evil vamps.

I'm curious to see where Love and Thunder picks up. I kind of assumed that Guardians 3 would be set before it, hence Thor leaving with the Guardians, but I don't know how they'll fit that in without a lot of cameos.

[up]Oh, easy; the Thor in that movie won't be Chris Hemsworth's character. They're introducing female Thor, and bring back Nathalie Portman to play as her. And she will co-star with Valkyrie.
