Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Technically we already had Word of God that Valkyrie was bisexual back when Ragnarok came out, they just haven't done anything with it until now.
I had this very argument with a work friend who was lamenting "forced diversity" — yes, he's one of those types. I pointed out that, if we could get to the point where LGBT characters in major action movies are represented in proportion to their presence in the general population and are no more remarkable than straight ones, then he'd have a valid complaint. Until then...
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The video-game Fuse had a focus group comprised of tween COD fanboys who turned a previously colorful & over the top fun game that doesn't take itself very seriously into a gritty grey cover-shooter that takes itself ultra-seriously.
There's also the I AM Legend focus group that wound up changing the movies ending just cause the hero realizing he's somewhat the villain is controversial.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."The focus groups are made up of real people, remember that, often they are fans too,it's just
Opinions man, they vary, and the focus group is a select group of people with opinions, now you take vastness of entire group of people as opposed to that room and you''ll find a wide range difference of opinion, maybe even your views are included unlike say,the select group
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverFocus groups are almost always wrong.
If a studio is gonna sink millions of dollars into a production they should have the guts to put their product out with the faith that the masses will like it.
They also need to be brave enough to give us positive LGBT characters. Sadly few are.

I think it's a bit like Executive Meddling, we hear about it when it resulted in an objectively worse movie, but when the studio notes resulted in a better movie, we almost never hear about it.
Few directors have the humility to admit that, had they been let off the studio leash, the movie would of been noticeably worse. Especially if they are never asked the question directly.
With Focus groups it's hard to say, and it's probably also depends greatly on how much effort they put into having a diverse focus group instead of just pulling a bunch of people off the street.
Regarding President Stark getting drunk and blowing up the White House, Tony has been remarkably good about staying away from alcohol after Demon in a Bottle. He even hangs around other people drinking and doesn’t drink which is often very hard for recovering alcoholics. Even when the world was about to end he didn’t drink, although he poured himself a drink and glared at it and then almost repulsored himself in the head.
I think his AI duplicate was drinking in Secret Empire though which is a mystery in itself
Forever liveblogging the AvengersHe got three wishes but they all had to be “my life spirals into disaster”
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI'm still at a loss for how Jane Foster is going to become Thor in Love and Thunder.
I'm psyched for it. But I have no idea how it'll happen without Mjolnir. It's a shame they didn't have the foresight to just keep the spare Mjolnir from Endgame.
Like, she could wield Stormbreaker, but I don't think that fits the lore? Stormbreaker's a powerful hammer, but it doesn't have Odin's "Whosoever holds this hammer" enchantment. It's just a really cool magic axe that Thor made. Tony could probably lift Stormbreaker, no questions asked.
Like. There's a reason Endgame brought Mjolnir to the future for Steve's awesome "lifting the hammer" moment rather than just having Thor hand him Stormbreaker. Lifting Mjolnir means something. Lifting Stormbreaker means Thor let you touch his things.
Which has me wondering. Mjolnir was left in shattered pieces on some island in Ireland. It wasn't tossed into a black hole or something. So maybe the film will start with Jane somehow coming into possession of the hammer's pieces? Maybe someone found these broken metal pieces that no one can pick up and now there's a lab on the site studying them or something?
In the comics, Jane had a special relationship with Mjolnir. The hammer could do things under her power that it couldn't do for Thor. So maybe in the MCU, Jane's supposed to, like, reforge Mjolnir or something - paying off that whole plotline about Jane studying Asgard's magicy sciency magic-science.
I don't know. I'm really curious to see how they're going to handle this.
Also: I've heard all this stuff about Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie and all this stuff about Natalie Portman's Lady Thor but y'know who I haven't heard anything about? Chris Hemsworth's Thor. Since Thor f*cked off with the Guardians, I wonder if Valkyrie and Jane are going to be the actual stars of the movie? I'd be down for that.

This song needs more love.![]()
During the panel, Taika said the "Love" part of the title referred to Thor's friendship with Korg. Hemsworth also made a lot of comments and jokes to the effect of "Yeah, Thor's still gonna be lounging on the couch, but he's improving slowly".

Yeah, reforging is probably the way to go. The pieces presumably were still lying on the field in Norway when the Asgardians arrived on Earth, and I'm sure someone scooped them up and brought them to New Asgard during the 5 year timeskip.
Actually putting the pieces back together will probably be a plot point in Love and Thunder.
Thor probably keeps them in a drawer and looks at them wistfully every so often

Over a decade and we're now just getting our first LGBT super hero on-screen.
Marvel, you need to be quicker on the draw.
