Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Also, some stuff from Dare Devil season 2 and Iron Fist season 1 also lead into Defenders.

...get some pain killer for Iron Fist season 1. Nothing makes people angrier than that series.

What am I, a masochist? If I want to suffer for my sins, I'll get a hair shirt. It'll be less aggravating if certain opinions are correct.

Although Iron Fist season 2 is supposedly better so...I'll put that on the bottom.

Iron Fist really doea deserve a less gritty down to Earth show.

It should really embrace the over the top kung-fu wutai spectacle.

Just looking at Colleen and Danny's appearances in Luke Cage season 2 and then watching Iron Fist season 2 and it's like, hey, can you tell Scott Buck isn't handling these characters anymore?

By the way, jessica's first season, done! Worth the time! I'm already three episodes into Luke's second season.

1. ...WHOSE IDEA WAS IT TO PUT "LUKE CAGE" ON HEROIN!? Who? Why? Why?! What, you're trying to say that Luke Cage endorses your specific heroin?

2. Good riddance, magic bullets. As much as the idea of using technology from "the incident" was intriguing to me, you were as lazy as can get. I mean, there's no reason why Chitauri technology can go through him, no real explanation given. It does because it does. What are you, bullets or seeds from a magic tree?

Still, Cage should really get back into "the barn" by the day. Enough times and who knows?

3. So, I've discovered- again - I am not comfortable with the level of violence here.

Oh god, the eye-slicing...

Edit: 4. Wait, Rand's better in Luke Cage season two? Really? Because I know he's coming eventually and I'm not totally sure if I should be afraid.

Bryan Tyree Henry is awesome — he played Miles' father in Into the Spider-Verse. Lauren Ridloff is apparently the former Miss Deaf America and will be playing the first deaf superhero.

I don’t think Hercules was ever too likely to appear in Eternals. While both series are based Greek myths (the latter very loosely), iirc they’re not especially connected.

A look at the cast. Another photo of all the cast.

There was a rumor that Eternals would have the first gay superhero. Not sure which one it might be however.

By the way, they stated that there will be ten movies in Phase 4 over two years. But two of those might, in fact, be shows in Disney+

Looks like the theories of the real Mandarin being in Shang-Chi were correct!

Probably the best place for him, especially with Iron Man out of the picture.
