Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

He also took out the Black Dwarf, a Thanos goon who fought the entire Shi'ar high command by himself.
They didn't even bother handwaving that one.
I think it's Firelord, Firestar is the mutant woman from the old cartoon.

And let's never forget that time Spider-Man managed to get the Cosmic Cube away from Thanos
◊.
Thanos has always been too tricky for his own good. If he'd never come up with the idea for the Infinity Gauntlet and invented Snaps, he and his forces would still exist today.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The Silver Surfer is weird. He’s supposed to have cosmic level power, but thanks to popularity he’s also to interact with loads of the Marvel universe evenly. So sometimes that cosmic power goes out the window to serve the story.
But speaking of Firestar, I really want her in the MCU.
Like, since introducing the Human Torch is a bit weird right now, they could have her be the “fire themed hero friend to Spidey” a la the Silver Age. Ultimate Firestar was Liz Allan, which would work (especially if they play up the “daughter of a supervillain” angle as part of her motivation), but since original Firestar was effectively an OC she’s basically a cipher, really.
I’ve been thinking they could even make Michelle Firestar in this continuity. Now that would be really cool.
Give MJ superpowers? That would be freaking awesome.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"There's also a page where Loki turns his head into Cat Thor and it's both hilarious and awesome and I love it forever.

She truly is wonderful.
What? Come on!
I'm all for Suspension of Disbelief as much as the next guy, but come on!
One Strip! One Strip!
x8: Ultimate MJ was one of the goblins. One of the amped up, OZ formula goblins; and the 'cure' she was given seems to be only a suppressive. Also, Ultimate Gwen Stacy got killed by Carnage, then her mind was copied into Carnage, making her Ultimate Carnage. She was also apparently depowered by Ultimate Venom, which essentially leaves her as a blob monster modelocked into a replica of her original body, with hints that she might not be 'cured' either.
Also, Ultimate Gwen crushed on Ultimate MJ even while the former was in a relationship with Peter. After he died and was resurrected, MJ and Peter ran off together, leaving Gwen in the dust.
1610 really is weird.

To be fair, the Tiger God is meant to be conquered. It's humanity's fear and humanity is meant to conquer it and use its power — the power of the White Tiger. All T'Challa was doing was conquering it so he could borrow its power and participate in the Eternity War.
I want Puck to show up in the MCU so we can get his awesome Badass Boast:

I'm speaking in a more general sense: so rarely in film adaptations of comics do we see the love interest or sidekick get superpowers themselves, even though it would address one of the fundamental inequalities in the relationship. Of course, there's a reason for that: having a normal to protect adds dramatic tension and gives cheap ways for the villains to target a hero indirectly.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Its so funny how OZ has no cure and can keep people from dying unless your name is Mary Jane or Harry Osborn. In that case fuck you. But if you're Norman Osborn then you can come back to life as many times as you want and the supposed cure used on MJ never comes up.

One of my own comic book pet peeves is people getting depowered for no good reason; that is, not explicitly a temporary thing or part of an arc where the loss is telegraphed and becomes the plot rather than incidental. Ultimate MJ and Gwen really stick out like sore thumbs in that regard, at least for me. There is a lot that could be done with them, but they have even less characterization and plot stuff to do than most normal people revolving around a superhero.
The Silver Surfer loaned Mary Jane the Power Cosmic for an hour in Silver Surfer Requiem.
The Protomen enhanced my life."In the alternate universe story Silver Surfer: Requiem, the Surfer allows Mary Jane Watson-Parker to use the Power Cosmic (which amounted to flying in space on his board for a few hours) for her birthday as a favor to Spider-Man. When she returns, deeply moved by the experience, Spider-Man asks Norrin to use the Power Cosmic and let the entire world feel the freedom that the Surfer feels (and Mary Jane felt). Norrin complies with the request and unleashes a wave of energy so powerful, the entire world stops in its tracks for five minutes."
Such a good story <3
