Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I wonder if the writers know that and will do just that.
I mean, I don't mind him earning her respect (after many beatings) but them getting together is something I also don't think should happen.
One Strip! One Strip!I wouldn't mind, but I feel without a very good script not only it might feel like a rehash of the first film, but it wastes a perfect opportunity to develop Quill.
Learning how to let go is a part of adulthood, after all, and as someone who lost so much so young he has understandable issues with doing that.
Just imagine of Infinity War and Endgame were put together and screened as one movie, instead of two. The first half would all be about trying to stop Thanos and failing...but then the second half would include a totally unexpected five year timeskip and then a completely different plot about going backwards in time to find the Infinity Stones.
That's what I mean about Infinity War and Endgame not being two parts of a whole film. They aren't: they have fundamentally different plots. You could move the opening of Endgame to the end of Infinity War and just leave it like that and the movie would be done. Thanos: dead. Half of the universe: also dead. A Downer Ending doesn't necessarily mean that it's a cliffhanger (even though IW does have a cliffhanger, it's, again, resolved very, very quickly in EG).
100% in agreement with the value in a story about learning to let go. If that's what Gunn goes with, I'll be very satisfied.
But I've been burned too many times by the prevalence of "ONE TRUE LOVE" in media to expect it.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I do think that's where Peter is going.
Him holding on to past things (or losing something in the worst way which facilitates said holding on to the past) is a big thing with him.
The death of his mom, finding his dad, losing his real dad, osing Gamora, etc. The guy's dealt with a lot of shit, because he either finds something and has it ripped from him or doesn't realize how important it was until it's gone.
I think that, if the writers are smart, they'll have Gamora (unintentionally) help him realize that. Him learning to accept that the woman he knows is gone will be a big step for him.
And then, after he spends the vast majority of his life in prison (or some deep dank pit) for helping destroy the universe, he can have some peace.
One Strip! One Strip!Even during Endgame, I figured the search for Gamora would basically boil down to "I (Quill), Nebula, and the rest of the team came to see your other self as a family. She and I were in love, too. There was something about us all together that made us a family. We know you're not the same person, but we at least want to see if there is any of that family still here, with you. We know there may be something, based on how quickly you were willing to trust our Nebula. Even your Nebula didn't do that."
I'm fine with that.
And I can even buy that Quill is capable of that kind of speech. Guy can be pretty insightful when he's not being....Peter Quill.
That rare 5% of insightfulness can is beautiful.
One Strip! One Strip!Being capable of moments of genuine empathy and insight only to serve as his very own Moment Killer is what Quill is all about. There's a genuinely effective and probably heroic leader in there somewhere but it's easier for him to resort to his man-child persona.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Rocket died and was replaced with a Skrull.
Note: in captivity raccoons can live for up to 20 years

Personally I kinda hope Quill and Gamora will not get together all over again. I have no fondness for this couple.
