Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

Goddamnit, I've gone down the rabbit hole of comparing MCU characters to Disney ones and now I can't stop.

I think the best is that now Thanos is Mother Gothel. Especially if the Tangled tv show goes in the direction some people are thinking it will.

Well there was that time Gamora got teleported into the Tangled show art style.

Did someone say Disney characters and the MCU?

[up][nja] Goddammit, we thought of the same thing.

The best part of that episode is definitely Drax-Man, heroic superhero reborn in a cosmic body who is definitely not mild-mannered photographer Drax.

As far as the Genre Roulette of MCU films go, PG 13-rated teen sex comedy was not what I was expecting. But if we're going the John Hughes route, then sure, why not? Leave no stone unturned.

Still waiting for my martial arts movie starring Shang-Chi and my Western starring that one Golden Age character that cameo'd in Agents of SHIELD.

I love how the furry little critters are deliberately keeping her from leaving by hiding her gear from her.

Pretty sure that was Agent Carter: Howard Stark was making a movie about Kid Colt.

Shang-Chi would be great. I'd love for it to have some of the Chinese Pantheon make an appearance somehow, even if its just the Monkey King to help Shang Chi fight probably the M Andarin and his magic.

A thought but if they bring in Kraven for the next Spidey movie they could use his Ultimate version where he becomes a lion man after getting his ass kicked by Spidey in the first round.

[up] Well, that was a very obscure joke.

Also, no, Kraven should definitely not do that, although I do hope we see a version of him soon.

[up][up] Oh that's what that post meant.

Kraven becoming a lion man would also make him a good counterpart to Black Panther.

One man who has embraced the beast inside & truly become an animal while another tempers it as he holds on to his humanity.

Kraven becoming a lion man would also make him a good counterpart to Black Panther.
But...Black Panther doesn't become a black panther. There is no "animal inside him." That's...now how that works at all.

Well BP has the panther spirit. tongue

Sure its not an exact 1:1 thing but there are ways you can work around that like Kraven himself forcing the symbolism as apart of an epic match.

Something I just realized: as of Avengers: Endgame, C-list superhero sidekick Falcon has appeared in more theatrical films than frickin' Robin the granddaddy of all sidekicks and partner to the most popular superhero of all time. I just find that very amusing.
