Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm going to do a Victorian translation of the scene I mentioned because I don't really have anywhere else to do it.
- Jules: (after stabbing through a couch) Mine apologies, good sir. Didst I break thy concentration? I meant not to do that. Please do continue. Thou were saying something about best intentions. Why art thou so downtrodden? ...Oh, thou hast finished! Please do allow me to retort. What does Marsellus Wallace look like?
- Brett: Wha-what?
- Jules: (smashes table) What country dost thou hail from?
- Brett: What?
- Jules: "What" is not a country mine ears have heard! Do they speak English in this so-called country of "What"?
- Brett: What?
- Jules: English, foozler! Dost thou speaketh it?!
- Brett: Aye!
- Jules: Then thou knowest the words that come forth from mine mouth!
- Brett: Aye!
- Jules: Describe what Marsellus Wallace looks like!
- Brett: ...What? I—
- Jules: (draws sword) Say what once more! Again! I dare thee once and again, flapdoodle! Say what one more vazey time!
- Brett: H-he-he hails from Africa!
- Jules: Continue!
- Brett: He hast no hair upon his head!
- Jules: Does he have the look of a yaldson about him?
- Brett: What?
- Jules: (swings his sword near his head) Does he look like a yaldson?!
- Brett: Nay!
- Jules: Then for what reason didst thou try to engage him like he was one?
- Brett: I did not!
- Jules: Aye, ye did! Aye, ye did, Brett! Ye tried to engage him, and Marsellus Wallace refuses to exchange swords with anyone aside from his beloved wife. Dost thou readeth the Bible, Brett?
- Brett: Aye.
- Jules: There is this verse that has been in my mind that this situation fitteth. Ezekiel 25:17? "And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them." (he and Vincent stab Brett in the stomach)
True. I got them confused.

Sir Tristram, violer d'amores, fr'over the short sea, had passen- core rearrived from North Armorica on this side the scraggy isthmus of Europe Minor to wielderfight his penisolate war: nor had topsawyer's rocks by the stream Oconee exaggerated themselse to Laurens County's gorgios while they went doublin their mumper all the time: nor avoice from afire bellowsed mishe mishe to tauftauf thuartpeatrick: not yet, though venissoon after, had a kidscad buttended a bland old isaac: not yet, though all's fair in vanessy, were sosie sesthers wroth with twone nathandjoe. Rot a peck of pa's malt had Jhem or Shen brewed by arclight and rory end to the regginbrow was to be seen ringsome on the aquaface.
The fall (bababadalgharaghtakamminarronnkonnbronntonner- ronntuonnthunntrovarrhounawnskawntoohoohoordenenthur- nuk!) of a once wallstrait oldparr is retaled early in bed and later on life down through all christian minstrelsy. The great fall of the offwall entailed at such short notice the pftjschute of Finnegan, erse solid man, that the humptyhillhead of humself prumptly sends an unquiring one well to the west in quest of his tumptytumtoes: and their upturnpikepointandplace is at the knock out in the park where oranges have been laid to rust upon the green since dev- linsfirst loved livvy.
@Weirdguy 149: I for one appreciate it and thought it was hilarious.
Re Marvel 1602, I loved the inclusion of Captain America as the "Native American" Rojhas (think I'm spelling that correctly).
I was reading Voltaire's L'Ingenue at about the same time as I first read the comic, and that similarly has a white guy who is culturally Native American (Huron in that case), and I've read at different points books about impostors between the 16th and 19th centuries claiming they were from various places and it working, because English people genuinely didn't know what people looked like elsewhere in the world, and could readily believe they were white.
So it's a quite period-appropriate touch.
Has Marvel ever done something equivalent to 52 from DC? Where we skip forward an amount of time after a big event then make a story filling in the intervening time later?
Because surely there's stuff you could do within the period of the snap? Maybe that's what Black Widow will be. She was in charge of things during that 5 year period, right?

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.It has been a while since I read it.
I definitely understand that Mighty Whitey is a deeply problematic trope.
But it feels "authentically inauthentic" to me that a story with an Elizabethan setting and tropes would use it. And it kind of makes sense since he's Captain America. And that was pretty much the only way to have him American during this timeframe.
He doesn't even really have that large a role in the story — so he never really comes across as Mighty Whitey.
I'm guessing Rhodey's become mission control and is co-running the Avengers with Carol (who takes care of space) and Okoye (using Wakandan tech to monitor the Earth).
They're the only ones left in interest (Rocket and Nebula are now part of a team again, and I don't think the Guardians are going to be too concerned about Earth overall right now) who know how it worked in the five years, so it makes the smoothest transitions.
