Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Evolution is based on existing traits changing dominance due to various environment factors, including disasters that randomly impacts the local gene pool itself. Many powerful predatory animals ended up dying out because their habitat shifted and they couldn't find enough prey, that's why large canines the same size as lions died off. There is some precedence to developing traits external to strictly evolution (ie independent from family history), which is where the term mutation comes from. Funny enough, I can see how the distinction between evolution and mutation would make for a controversial argument In-Universe.
And in both the main continuity and the Ultimate line, mutants aren't even natural. They are byproducts of genetic engineering. In the mainline it was done by the Celestials. In the Ultimate line it was done by the American government as part of the Super-Soldier project.
Disgusted, but not surprisedFans really are the lowest of the low, sometimes
.
F*ck me, is there anything in the Ultimate line not related to a Super-Soldier program?
Not much.
Now you know another reason why the Ultimate line tanked.
Also apparently at least one reason why the poor girl is being harassed is that some people are somehow under the mistaken belief that she is playing Riri Williams despite the fact that the character is a completely different & unrelated person from the character she played.
WTF?

Sloths survive because they live in trees. That's it.
In their native environments there are no predators who is both big enough to eat a sloth and still lightweight enough to not cause the branches to collapse. There are some birds of prey who might go after sloths, and some big cats are good at leaping high enough to drag them from the branches, but that's pretty much it.
Sloths also survive because their lifestyles mean they are very good at conserving energy.
It takes more than raw strength to survive and thrive. Efficiency is what counts.

Also tell that to the Emerald Jewel Wasp. Y'know, the wasps that take control of roaches by stinging them into submission, eating their antennae for blood, and then leading them back to their lairs so they can lay their eggs inside them. Which is followed by the larvae eating the roaches from inside out before bursting out full-grown.
Why yes, wasps were one of the inspirations for Xenomorphs.
That's one of the rules of nature: no matter how disgusting something is, there is something (or somethings) that have no qualms about eating it.
Roaches in fact have quite a few natural predators. Cats, wasps, centipedes, geckos, frogs, scorpions...

Disgusted, but not surprisedIsn't Mother Nature amazing?
Supposedly Darwin began to doubt the existence of a loving God after seeing wasps in action.
Here's the supposed quote:
And yes, there's video footage of the wasps doing that to roaches.

Disgusted, but not surprisedSet photos always look terrible.
Special effects teams do a lot of work behind the scenes. Not just on the flashy superpowers but also on making costumes look less shitty, props look more believable, and America's Ass look tighter.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Other than X-Men and Fantastic Four film rights given to Fox; Hulk film rights to Universal; Spider-Man and Ghost Rider to Sony, who else acquired movie rights to Marvel properties?
EDIT: Got rid of "Getting back on-topic" because Targetmaster Joe and Tobias Drake beat me to the punch in doing so.

More seriously, I knew about these Wasps, I just didn't realize they targeted Cockroaches. Thanks for the science lesson^^
I expect special effects to make it look better. Some more photos[1]
Speaking of evoltion, Kane's ultimate plan before the bullshit of an abomination that is Tiberian Twilight was to turn Earth into a tiberium hellhole and help humanity adapt to tiberium. Becoming stronger is just a side-effect. Well, he believes tiberium holds the key to the next stage of human evolution.
I think, it's been a while since I played Tiberian Dawn and Sun and Tiberium Wars.
It certainly would help humanity be able to traverse tiberium fields without succumbing to its effects or becoming visceroids

The Ultimatrix's "evolution" is also justified since it was specifically created to be a weapon, unlike the original Omnitrix which was meant to be a tool to promote understanding between races.
Disgusted, but not surprised
