Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Even the comics doesn't really do the "Galactus shows up and they have to fight to save the Earth plot" straight any more, because it's been done a billion times already - continuing to do it over and over again would just make the character tired, since it just emphasizes what makes him a Generic Doomsday Villain and files off the actually interesting nuance that should be on top of that (see also, what DC nearly did to Darkseid).
The best version of that "fight" recently done was when Squirrel Girl instead became BF Fs with him. It doesn't sound awesome, but it was. It really was.
But I feel like Galactus would have a ton of potential if you're using him while exploring the cosmic side of things. Like, one random thing I'd love in Captain Marvel 2 (that is, in the hypothetical situation the movie leaves Earth behind, which I don't entirely think it should, but that's a different conversation), if we see Carol exploring the cosmos and learning about the universe, is for her to meet Galactus. You could also do it with the Guardians or the Four, of course, but Carol is the one I kept thinking of for this simply by the nature of the scene.
She wouldn't fight him. Just meet him. Not as a major character or even a minor character, but as a moment - like the asteroid worm in Empire Strikes Back.
He's just... out there in space, as this huge, titanic humanoid thing that is so powerful it barely has a need to acknowledge the rest of the universe but for to feed, except perhaps for Carol but for a fleeting moment. She stumbles across him, and it'd be one of those scenes were the audience - especially comic book fans - expects Galactus to lash out or start a fight, and the anticipation builds and builds but... nothing happens.
And then maybe the story ends with him showing up to nom the Kree homeworld or something, which would be fine because they're all assholes.

I definitely think that Galactus should be introduced, but the whole "he's coming to Earth to eat it" thing should be avoided. Like, perhaps he's eating a different planet and Carol tries to save the planet, but can't and can only end up evacuating people. It would be a low blow for Carol, since now she's encountering something that is immeasurably stronger than her — it's something she can't punch her way out of — and she has to contend with that fact. But also her helping more refugees would be interesting. Especially if they are the Kree — I mean, damn, if Captain Marvel 2 was about her helping Hala evacuate as it was being eaten by Galactus? And she has to put aside her emotions and help the very people who kidnapped and gaslit her because, hey, the general populace aren't evil, they are innocent. So she tries to fight Galactus, but can't, so recommends evacuation — but the Supreme Intelligence doesn't want to evacuate, so she has to lead the other Kree into evacuating and then the Kree themselves become refugees.
Goddammit, now I want this hypothetical movie in my head to be real.
(But also, I want Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan in the movie, too. Perhaps they can tag along when Carol is asked by the Kree for help.)

God, seeing Eternity on the big screen would be...awesome in a very literal sense.
Seeing any of the Abstracts has been my dream since I saw the Celestials in Got G 1.
I think Spider-Man: Web of Shadows would be good MCU event movie. Lots of heroes and villains that could get symbiotized, and a good chance to introduce Agent Venom.
So I need to ask, why is Shades in Luke Cage so popular? This is a genuine question because I'd really like to like as many characters as I can.
I've warmed up to Mariah a lot. In fact, I really like the vast majority of Luke Cage's supporting cast. They're great. But I don't "get" Shades. I don't find him very intimidating, nor cool. I don't feel sorry for him, and he's not written to be hateable. It feels like there's clearly something compelling about him that I'm not seeing.
Kaze ni Nare!I personally never quite understood Shades's popularity either, but it seems like his whole Enigmatic Minion shtick won a lot of people over due the ambiguity of his character.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."In Season 1 Shades was the only villain who remained calm e acted rationally and pragmatically across the entire season (dind't send someone flying from a roof like Cottonmouth, dind't kill someone in a fit of rage like Mariah, dind't act randomly like Diamondback), trying to work around Luke Cage and simply continue doing business as usual. Essentially, he was the Only Sane Man of the bad guys.
Season 2 Shades loses some of this characterization, at least to me, mostly because he actually falls in love with Mariah (at the end of Season 1 I thought he was just going along, not sure if I misread the scene or the plan changed between season), and (at least to me) is much less interesting.
Also, there's just something Narm Charming about a guy who always wears sunglasses and styles himself entirely around that aspect.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! In theory, it may sound good, but it'd have to be like Civil War in that there are loads of changes from the source material. For starters, someone else would have to be Agent Venom because Flash can't.
We'd also need to establish a lot of things like the Symbiotes, and the Venom movie didn't exactly follow the MCU standard of being a financial AND critical darling.
Wait, are we talking about the video game Spider-Man: Web of Shadows? Because that was before Agent Venom was even a thing.
The game did give us Spider-Man tearing Wolverine in half, so... crossover?
Or, for extra funny, in The Spectacular Spider-Man because when he was a kid he used to run around without pants a lot.
Probably thanks to the extended cut (is it out already?), Avengers: Endgame has surpassed Avatar’s original theatrical run!

Agreed.
So...Space Tornado?
Maybe Space Fart?
