Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Well I'm progressing through Luke Cage's 2nd season and just finished the episode where Mariah tells the truth about her birthing Tilda to her. Holy fucking shit, Mama Mabel is/was just...just...the worst!
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)
I didn't watch the second season because I just don't care about the Netflix series anymore, but from what I heard it seems like a natural conclusion of her character arc. And if Jessica Took a Level in Kindness in the 3rd Season, maybe they were going for a Hourglass Plot, where Jess starts as the unstable mess and Trish as the successful Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold, and then at the end the positions are reversed?
Again, I didn't watch and I don't see myself doing it anytime soon, just pointing out a possible artistic goal of the script.
One of my favorite comics arcs remains Patsy Walker, a.k.a. Hellcat! where she’s really nice and opens a temp agency for super folks.
And that is season 2 and, sadly, Luke Cage as a whole under my belt. Yeah, that was pretty much an improvement across the board. The action, the writing, the more grizzly moments and elements, the emotional beats (latter two are mixed to quite an effect when Mariah exposits to Tilda about the circumstances regarding her being born), it just works better. Mariah and especially Bushmaster are two of my favorite villains in the whole MCU now. The scene where Luke, John and Ingrid are all gathered around Anansi is also possibly one of my new favorite scenes in the franchise, in a season already packed with great, memorable moments.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)The final villain of Jessica Jones is Trish Walker, but only because she thinks of herself as like the Punisher but with morals. She genuinely thinks that killing the bad guys is the right thing rather than putting them in jail. When she's finally confronted with all of her crimes, she has a Heel Realization and then gets sent to jail.
Salinger is good. Very Zemo-esque, as a chessmastering Badass Normal playing a bunch of superhumans for fools; but as a serial killer looking to claim victims and avoid the law, rather than a revenge-driven terrorist.
But regarding Luke Cage, yeah, Mariah is one of the best MCU villains. Especially when she goes to the Jamaican restaurant to help them cook some barbecue.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Sallinger never says "Live a poem or die a fool".
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Hasn't there already been a whole discussion about how Bushmaster's powers are totally different?
"All you Fascists bound to lose."That seems sufficiently different to me. He also seems a lot more agile and reliant on his wits.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."G Ninja: Yeah, he's really not that similar to Luke Cage power-wise; super-strength and super-thoughness pretty much are standard powers, and his fighting style is drastically different.
Also, I am repeating myself at this point really don't understand your whole not getting anything from watching heroes be badass, because personally that's the primary thing that makes me watch these series. I enjoy seeing villains be badass too, but when a villain does nothing but win until the season finale, I find it frustrating and boring to no end.
I think people keep shooting at Luke Cage either because they don't believe he truly is completely bulletproof or because they're not willing to run and are afraid to actually approach Luke. Fight or flight bites you in the ass if you're unwilling to flight.
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
