Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Then nothing was confirmed?
Pity, I always felt Ironheart is a pretty neat concept that was brought short by Bendis' horrible writing, I was actually looking forward to her showing on live-action.
One day, though. Hopefully.
BTW, speaking of Iron Man, who else here wants to see Peter acting like a doting big brother to lil' Morgan? 'Cause that would melt my heart like you wouldn't believe.

The problem is well, you only have one chance to make a first impression. I’ll avoid beating a dead horse with my usual example and will say that the initial writing of Ironheart as a smug sociopath has tainted her and will make any use of her an uphill battle, but it’s no different than Carol post CW II.
So I know nothing about Riri aside from what I've heard in this thread.
But I think if they're going for her having a central motivation to surpass Tony it would be a pretty nice character arc.
Since he's, you know, dead.
It might be a pretty basic thing for her to move past, since its impossible-ish.
But I think it could make for a nice arc.

CW 2 was only important to people who read comics which is less than a fraction of the movie going audience. The people who paid to see the film didn't know or care about what happened in one of Marvel's many stupid events. Tony was a bigger risk when his first film was in the making.
It would be child's play (no pun intended) for the MCU to make Riri appealing to a wider audience. Especially if Bendis isn't involved in the writing.

I agree that a bad first impression is hard to move past, but that is precisely why I want Riri in the MCU: in live-action, she's blank, there's no past history to concern yourself with, just cherry-pick whatever is best from the source and go nuts.
Iron Man was pretty hated back when the first movie was released, lest we forget, and pretty much the whole world outside the USA thought Captain America was a complete joke of a character that only existed as a progapanda piece, and look at where we are now.

Exactly. Specify that Bendis has zero say, make it so you’re only using the broad concept of Ironheart, and you’ll have a potential to craft a likable character, as well as 10,900 videos about why she’s the absolute worst.
Hell, you have a built in tag line. “The legacy keeps beating” or some other heart based pun.

As long as she doesn’t get her start stealing Tony’s memorial arc reactor
That’d be messed up
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
...That’s what you do if you want a villain. Have her try to make it by herself IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!

I think "narcissistic" fits better, and not the fun kind of narcissism but the actual clinical condition.
Maybe it's just me, but the way she just stares at the teacher with that blank look in her face pressuring the woman to be prejudiced against her is just incredibly off-puting.
Her making a primitive version of an Iron Man suit in her garage would make for an excellent character introduction, actually.

Have you actually read Riri's first appearance or are you just going off of those three pages? Because Riri isn't a sociopath and she isn't a narcissistic. What is is very socially awkward, due to many different factors including the fact that she had such a large IQ at a young age (which is why she invented a narrative in her head and was disappointed when the teacher didn't adhere to that narrative) and the fact that her only friend was killed in a drive-by shooting.
Seriously, read her other appearances rather than that flashback. And then read Eve Ewing's Ironheart book. It's awesome.

That I could see. It might actually work a bit better if she’s obsessed with the narrative without the whole “my teacher needs to be racist”. She wants to build it in a cave but her parents aren’t having it. There’s an idea for a good character there, a teen inventor who thinks she’s destined for great things, and probably is, but she has to realize they need to be done for the right reasons or else she’ll cause more harm than good.
But you have to throw out just about everything but the core concept.

I really was hoping the Captain Marvel could do the same thing for people who hated Carol after the infamous Civil War II debacle. Unfortunately, thanks to all the Anti-SJW morons doing all in their power to make it look like she was the most hated thing on Earth, I legit have no idea if the movie succeeded at making her popular again.

Eh, nowaday any excuse is good to accuse a character of being a psychopath, sociopath or narcissist. Or accuse a real person of the same really. You should see some character studies you can find on the internet.

$1.1 billion at the box office is a good sign.

One good movie is all it really takes.

Everyone made fun of him. Literally everyone. And the jokes were unceasing because it was a much wider audience than a comic.
The concept of Ironheart isn’t irredeemable by a long shot. They just need to put their best foot forward and not let Bendis write a single line of dialog. Ignore the comics for the most part but use that concept and make something out of it.
My concern is someone going “oh, she was like that in the comic, we have to make her the worst” which given what they didn’t do with Hank Pym, seems like worrying too much.

“Avengers: Endgame” is getting re-released in cinemas with bonus scenes
, because Disney really wants to pass the Avatar record.
I mean, Daredevil, Hulk, X-Men, all were conceived by Stan Lee, but their real creators are Frank Miller, Peter David, and Chris Claremont, respectively.
