Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Whether he's a genuine hero or a Villain with Good Publicity, Mysterio does know how to put on a show.
That Queen of England bit will never not be hysterical & Roxanne's reaction to it.
The most important quality about a super-villain is indeed the presentation & panache.
Its why Joker was so disappointing in the Jokerz gang in the Batman Beyond animated flick. They totally lack panache.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Speaking of, I want Quentin Beck to give us a full bellied, head thrown all the way back, full tilt Evil Laugh. Because it's freakin' Mysterio, and all the world's a stage.
When's the last time we got a really great Evil Laugh from an MCU villain? Loki?

When did Loki have an Evil Laugh?
As for the next Evil Laugh, I'm putting my money on Green Goblin.

The best part about that Megamind clip is that it's not just an awesome moment, it's absolutely true. You don't get to be a real supervillain unless you've got some drama in your soul.

Loki gets a good amount of evil laughs and chuckles in his first few appearances, though the one I always remember the best is this one.

Red Skull is imo the best "just straight up over the top, old school villainy" villain of the bunch, mostly because he's written like stepped right out of a 40's radio drama.
- ''"CAPTAIN AMERICA! HOW EXCITING!"
The more or less grounded nature of the MCU means there aren't an awful lot of opportunities to get that again. We'll mainly start getting either in series that are more open to traditional comic book silliness (like GOTG or Ant-Man), characters who are written to embody that even in more emotionally grounded stories (like Mysterio, hopefully), or simply looser films.
Dr. Doom should be that way too, when we inevitably get him.

Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t know
she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
And she has fourth billing for that movie? Her agent must be fantastic.
Double-posting to say that TIH is now under my belt (almost more enjoyable than overhearing the conversations between my drunken brother and mom but that's a can of worms for another time).
Got about what I expected from this. That is to say, not much of quality sadly. It's largely quite shlock-y and uninteresting, with Blonsky probably coming the closest to a character I actually kinda liked. Edward Norton was meh as Bruce, Betty Ross and Sam Sterns were mildly annoying, action was probably passable for the time but lol now, Abomination looks goofy, Hulk looks ugly (also his hair here just looks stupid), really this is just not a great watch. There's so little of note or worth here, the best thing I can really say is that I didn't have to pay to watch it. Hands down the most skippable movie in the franchise.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Thor 2 is definitely more skippable in as much as it's incredibly dull and about the only thing that matters is Frigga's death, and even that not so much until Endgame made it relevant.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."I disagree. For one, in terms of the overreaching arc, it is way more relevant. Two, whole what Thor does in the movie is pretty much forgettable, what Loki does, isn't. After all, one of his tricks leads to the death of the one person he cares about, and what he does towards the end of the movie leads directly to Thor ragnarok. Remove TIH, and the only important information you miss is "when exactly did the Hulk destroy Harlem" and who General Ross exactly is. Frankly, Ao S offers more interesting additional information than TIH does. Remove TDW you suddenly miss a huge chunk of the overreaching story.

Eh, there's always a rumor. They're going to do it eventually, regardless. Be it in a year, or four.
