Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Obviously, that pitch won't be used, but that doesn't mean that Reed won't be able to make a different version of his FF movie.
I just want the Fantastic 4 to finally being a family of explorers instead of superheroes. And there is now a LOT to explore in the MCU, from space, to different realms, to alternate realities.
It would also be nice if they were updating the family dynamic to how the family dynamic would look like nowadays.
I hope it starts with Reed and Sue already married. Everyone knows it's going to happen eventually so might as well skip the whole Will They or Won't They rigmarole and focus on the family stuff.

This song needs more love.If the setup is that the Fantastic Four are returning to Earth after a long time exploring or missing there’s an easy way to get their origin out there in like a minute of screentime
Have a museum or something with a presentation of the origin
Really old and kind of hokey with bad hammy acting that sums up the origin, maybe even make an animated comic version of the original
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, I think that's a good idea.
I wouldn't want to skip the origin entirely 'cause, like, this is not a Spider-Man situation. The Fantastic Four have had a few movies, but those movies are universally terrible. I think it's folly to be like, "Why do I need to explain who these people are? Did you NOT watch Rise of the Silver Surfer? Or what about that universally-beloved cinema classic, Fant4stic?! Come on, people, get real."
The Fantastic Four have never had a good movie. As such, the less this movie depends on people remembering their past film excursions, the better. Marvel needs to start from scratch and just do it properly, introducing people to their version of the characters in a way that gets the audience invested here and now.
That said,
is a good way to do it. It gets the origin out of the way early on. Having the First Family lost in space this whole time avoids any questions of "Where were they during X?" regarding the MCU's history.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I could do with the FF having been a famous team of explorers who went on a experiment during the 60's and are just now coming back as fishes out of temporal water. Because you can never have enough fishes out of temporal water (we had one out of the 40's, one out of the 80's. we need 60's and 70's!).
I'd also honestly not make Doom their first villain. I'd use Mole-Man.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."RE: Peyton Reed and the F4: I'm not opposing the idea, but it does raise the question as to how they'll establish Doctor Doom.
Maybe it'll be an inverse to how they got Monica Rambeau in Captain Marvel? Namely maybe the F4 were friends with one of Victor's parents (his mom?), but then stuff happens and while they get lost in space, he grows up to hate them with a passion?
Or maybe after so many F4 movies that used Doom (i.e. all of them), they'll set Doom up to be someone else's bad guy?
Wow, the possibilities are endless, eh?

Doom as ally and friend of the Fantastic Four who keeps getting sinister villain flag moments but the trigger is never pulled on it
Forever liveblogging the Avengers"On, no, it's just that they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing one in the future"
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThey should set up Doom as a Greater-Scope Villain. Use the Fantastic Four movie to build momentum for a confrontation in the next Avengers crossover. The same way Guardians of the Galaxy built up Thanos.

Of course it wasn't exactly written to be a balanced take since Doom gets Bast to agree that Doom is not only the absolute best but also the only hope for the future.
